Supica and Nahas' 'Standard Catalog of S&W'. Look for the most recent edition (3rd maybe???).

The trouble with the "Catalog" is its just a catalog. How about an in depth story of the development.

"The History of Smith & Wesson Firearms" by Dean K. Boorman is a good history lesson on S&W guns.

There seems to be a lot more info, cataloged data on Serial #'s correlation on revolvers. Especially the older pre 90's era. This is probably due the the very hard work of the generation of people who grew up with them. Like Roy Jinks noted S&W historian. There is less, or at least I haven't seen much on the nuances of the semi automatics. The SWSC has good info on model #'s and origin & manufacturing periods of all the semi autos. The SN data base is less complete. Maybe someone from the newer generations would like to take this history on as a project. Maybe someone(s) has and i don't know them. Just saying that the very complete history of the y hand ejectors required dedicated people with a passion for what they liked. I like both revolvers and semi automatics. I haven't seen a good history of the semi auto's. This would be interesting. If anyone knows of some please post.
