22a LR semi-auto pistol
Just purchased my first pistol....loaded magazine and noticed that the magazine "miss-loads" after firing every 3-4 shells creating much anxiety for a newbe...any thoughts?

Welcome New Guy,
Is the pistol just not picking up the round and placing it in the chamber? Is the round not going off but it has the indent of the firing pin? If it's a brand new gun I'd make sure it's clean.Try different ammo. 22 caliber ammo can be quite inconsistant as far as power goes and it might not be pushing the slide back far enough to strip a round from the mag.The gun may just need a couple 1000 rds. to break in. Does it do it with a certain mag? If so look for dents around the feed lips. Check for tooling marks on the feed ramp to ensure a smooth entry into chamber. Chances are with a change in ammo, try a bunch of different brands, and shooting the snot out of it it will more than likely straighten itself out. Shoot till it hurts!

If this is a used gun, check the fit of the barrel stud into the frame recess. The frames are not "steel" and have been known to enlarge with wear. Unfortunately, I don't believe this gun has the s&W lifetime warranty.

With the 22a I have found that CCI Minimags in both the 40gr Copper Plated RN and the 36gr Copper Plated HP have never failed. Also, blue box Federal Champion 36gr Copper Plated HVHP's in bulk work fine. I have yet to find ammo under 1240-1260fps or with a LRN that works reliably in my 22A

My 22a-1 from the time it was new has never given me a problem with any of the three magazines it came with. Using Federal target from Walmart in 325 round boxes.

Use good ammo. CCI Mini-Mag is great in the 22A. CCI Blazer is pretty good too, if you want to try to save some money, but it tends to foul more than the Mini-Mag.
I have had feed problems with Eley Sport ammo. As many as 3 fte/ftf in a mag. Really bad ammo can make you think your gun is bad.
