Default First attempt at refinishing stocks.

Hard to see but the original grips on my 29 were in horrible shape! Finish was flaking off, lots of dings and scratches. I decided to try my hand at refinishing the wood on them. Started by soaking them in acetone then sanded them down real good to smooth them out. Then after several coats of Tru-Oil over several days with much sanding after each coat, I finished it off with some Renaissance wax/polish. Gave me the look I was wanting but I might keep working with them to perfect the look the way I want. But overall I am very happy with them and feel that I know where to improve to make them better next time.

Great job Mike - I recycle old toothbrushes to the garage.
Take a soft bristle toothbrush to clean up Ren wax in the checkering and grooves

They look fine to me. They have nice grain in them. I am not a purist and they would suit any gun I have.

Here's a set of N-frames that I bought on Ebay and refinished. I rubbed them with Formby's refinisher and medium steel wool, then rinsed with alcohol and let dry. Lightly sanded, then rubbed smooth with fine steel wood. After that, three coats of semi-gloss polyurethane on three consecutive days.
