Should I do this Trade?! (Bodyguard 380 for Kahr CW9)

I am in quite the predicament here. I love my Bodyguard, because I'm quite a skinny guy, so any bigger framed gun is quite difficult for me to conceal. I usually carry my Bodyguard in my Remora holster either in my front pocket or in my waistband right to the left of my belt buckle. The only thing I'm not too keen on is that the stopping power of the .380 isn't as good as a 9mm; and the Kahr CW9 would be more accurate (obviously, as it has a longer barrel). The trade offer is as follows: I will trade him the Bodyguard, two magazines, two 50 round boxes of target ammo, the Remora holster and the original box, pouch, and paperwork as well as $50. In the trade I would receive the Kahr CW9, two magazines, a laserlyte rear sight laser, an IWB holster, a 50 round box of 9mm ammo, and the original box including all of the paperwork. I think this seems like a pretty good deal, as I've heard nothing but good things about Kahr, and I would prefer a 9mm as a carry gun rather than a .380. All of your thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated. If you think that I am getting the short end of the stick here, let me know and be blunt about it.

if the lazerlyte was not attached i would say your getting screwed. but it seems like a fair trade. I traded a beat to deat 6904 for my CW40 and i love it. the Kahr is a very concealable weapon.

if it makes ya happy go for it.
 
The only problem I see is that of warranty. Should there be a problem with the Kahr dealing with them as the non original owner will cost you. SW tends not to ask. I have a PM 9 and had issue with it. Kahr service is fine for the original owner. The SW BG in 380 is a fine SD gun, no it's not a 45 but it still is a effective deterrent. Maybe trade it in on the new Shield if you want a 9MM.

Just think of the BG as a 9mm Kurz, and you will already have a 9mm.:)
 
I had a CW9 for a short time and would not make the trade if I was in your position. The CW9 is a great gun, and mine ran like a top and ate everything I put in the magazine. The biggest problem for me personally is the odd size. It is too big for pocket carry (unlike it's shorter brother the CM9) and if you are going to belt carry, there are other guns not much bigger which carry more ammo. larger caliber ammo, etc.

The Kahr CW9 has a long, double action trigger and the sights take a little getting used to. I was actually at the LGS about to buy the BG 380 with the money I made from selling my Kahr. My wife was with me and she liked the Sig P238 better and that's the one I ended up bringing home.

All in all, just think it through and do what you want to do...If you shoot the BG 380 well, you can carry it well and it suits you, keep it. otherwise, if you think the .380 is too weak for self defense and you really can't sleep at night until you are carrying at least a 9mm, then get you some of that sleek, slim Kahr 9mm and have fun. let us know what you decide to do.
 
these small pistols are selling like crazy now .they are the new fad . especially 380. to me the 9mm is the better deal , ammo is everywhere and cheap and a very popular caliber . i don't own a 9mm but somehow aqquired 700 rounds . i own a raven 25cal and have shot it once . i will probably get a 9mm next , either the spring field or maybe a glock . i would trade 4 the kahr

The Laserlyte isn't attached. Would I be able to attach it myself or would I need to take it to a professional or gunsmith?
 
I would sell the BG and take a god look at the new S&W Shield.

Though I don't like ANY laser, the only one I would use, and do own, is the Crimson Trace.

Everything else is just another button or switch which requires the divided attention you won't be able to spare in your time of need.
 
IMHO this is another caliber discussion. IF you have to shoot someone it is about shot placement more than anything else. IF you shoot both very well bigger is better, but only slightly. No handgun is actually able to stop someone w/a single shot. I normally carry an M&P 340 but on occassion carry the Ruger LCP and do not feel undergunned. FWIW I'm kind of thin too and find it difficult to hide a large handgun.
 
I can't buy into the "cheaper ammo" argument. If you are going to carry a gun for self defense you need to practice with the ammo you are going to use when carrying. If you're going to carry cheap ammo, then maybe. But I want to carry the best available if my life is going to depend on it. My BG380 eats the "high priced" +P and that's fine with me.

S&W 9MM Shield. Striker fired, thumb safety, can pocket carry or IWB. Good trigger (not long double action). Very nice piece.
 
Keep the BG for a quick pocket gun when you just want to run out with your shorts on. I find anything heavier than a light polymer 380 or a airweight j frame does not work well in my pocket.

Get a shield if you want a 9mm. Nice to have options.


Before you do anything, take them both to the range and fire them as a comparison.
 
If it was a CM9, I'd say make the deal and run with it. I have BG380 and it no way is as accurate and shootable as my CM9. The CM9 is a little bigger than the BG380, but can be used for pocket, or ankle, carry. In a pinch, the CM9 can be used to accurately engage targets a lot further than the BG380. The trigger pull is much better than the BG. The only issue I have with the CM9 is the sharp edge on the front side of the exjection port.
 
Now the deal has changed, as he has a buyer for his Laserlyte laser. I wasn't too worried about having a laser anyways, as if the situation arose where I had to unfortunately draw my pistol on a threat, I don't feel I'd even think about turning the laser on on my BG. The deal is now this: My BG with all original box and paperwork, a 50 rd box of ammo, a Remora holster and a DeSantis holster (Desantis holster came with the gun originally), for his Kahr CW9 with Trijicon night sights, an IWB holster, a 50 round box of 9mm ammo, and all original paperwork and box. No cash involved. Any thoughts now?
 
iv'e had a couple of Kahrs and won't suggest anyone own one for self defense. cust. svc. was ****, and reliability was mediocre. keep the BG, and save up to get the S&W shield, or the XDs in .45 if you can.
 
Have you seen the gun and looked it over real well? Have you put it in the holster on your person to see if it feels good? Have you shot it? Before even thinking about making a deal I would do the above and if he's not willing to let you fire it or try it on for size I would say something's fishy and I'd walk away. Just my .02
 
I am going to check if it fits in my Remora holster, and see his IWB holster fits me before I agree to anything. I don't have any private property nor do I know anyone with private property to shoot on. I am currently unemployed so I can't go spending money on range time and ammo. I should be meeting up with the guy in about two hours, so I will let you know if the trade goes down. Thanks a bunch for all of your opinions.

^^ This ^^ The Shield is a very nice shooter in the 9mm, very slim, accurate and not fussy with ammo.
