Pardon our ignorance and I apologize if this is the wrong section to post this in but my wife and I were looking to see how much our S&W 3913 was worth as we are looking to get something new. My wife won this from Ducks Unlimited quite a few years ago and it has been fired twice maybe three times in all of the years we have had it (about 30 or so rounds). It normally sits in a drawer and has been well taken care of (see pictures - we grayed out the s/n as we weren't sure). I was hoping you might be able to give us some estimates before we go new gun shopping around town. Thanks in advance for your help.

That is a very desirable gun and you should consider keeping it if you can.

I haven't seen a recent sale but I would guess that the gun in that condition with all of the goodies would sell for $550 in a private sale.

Locally that LNIB 3913 LadySmith would bring at least $600.......possibly a little more.

There are few out there in unused condition. Folks that have them generally don't part with them.

Those were the finest single stack 9mm CCW handguns produced by S&W. They no longer make any handguns as good or as nice as that 3913. Neither does anyone else for that matter.

Thank you very much! I did not realize it was worth so much. My wife has larger hands for a woman and never liked how it felt when she was shooting. Neither did I which is why we have barely used it.

How much would something like that cost to ship (we are in the Austin, TX metro area)? Finally, is there any special paperwork on our end that we would need to file / fill out showing that we sold the gun to you? Thanks.

jayman did you ever try the Hogue rubber grips? They make my 3913 fit my hand as if it were made for it.

May also help with your wifes larger hands as they change the trigger reach.

Well all firearms transfers require an FFL to ship from state to state, I would have to send you a signed copy of my dealers FFL, who would have to receive it from you or your dealer and then transfer it to me. I think most dealers will do that for between 25-50.00s I guess the next question of the forum members is does anyone in your area Austin, TX know of a FFL willing to help you with transfer and shipping for a fair price? UPS will ship firearms (handguns & long guns) for private individuals. All the seller needs to do is take a copy of the buyers signed FFL to UPS. The UPS personnel look at the FFL and ship the weapon. I've done this successfully a number of times.

That may be true, but UPS requires overnight shipment, which is much more expensive than my FFL sending it priority mail. I can give the gun to my FFL and have a trackable transaction for $40, or send it myself UPS or FEd-Ex for $50 or more.

Thanks Tennesee Vol, we used to live in the Country between M'boro and Nashville, my Dad was an IP in the C-130 and stationed at Sewart, I think he was attached to the 314th TAS and the 772nd TAS, they move the school to Little Rock and he retired from LRAFB about 1972, moved back to Tenn, and then left the promised land for the land of Lincoln.

I used UPS to ship rifles on two separate occasions a few years ago. Each rifle cost me $30 to ship. Maybe prices have gone way up???

You can get at least $650 for that. If you put it on GB probably closer to $700. The Lady Smith sells for more than a 3913 and a 3913 NL.
With the case and bag I believe you will get close to or even a little more than $700. I would not take any less than $650.

Just my old fart opinion, but I have a 3913LS just like yours in like new condition and I would NOT take less than $700.00 for it. LNIB 3913LS's are few and far between, and apparently there are a lot of folks "out there" who know what a quality (and unusual and desirable) pistol it is.

I would put it on Gunbroker with a reserve close to $700.00 and see what interest you get. You might be surprised.

I sold a LNIB CS45 on GB last month for $775.00 + $30.00 shipping and the gentleman who bought it was glad to get it.

You can always ask any price you want, and if you don't get any responses in a reasonable period of time THEN you can reconsider your asking price.

I like GB.. I've sold several firearms (and bought several) there and have always been satisfied.

Thanks for all of the info guys. We really appreciate it as this this the first gun we have tried to sell. As soon as we sell it I have been given "senate approval" to replace it with a new M&P 9mm. I think I am leaning towards the Pro Series version.

These pistols are indeed unique, and seem to find their style in some of the older Walther PP style of pistol, or perhaps the Colt 1903. I sold ours because wifey was not comfortable with it, recoil spring is rather healthy as is the recoil itself, She ended up afteral sever range trips and trades with a K-17, five screw, course I had to install some pearlescent pimp grips in the smooth magna style, it was amazing how being confident in her ability to manipulate and manage the weapon, turned her rather deadly with that little Smith. I on the other hand have missed the 3913, and have been seeking another for our 14 year old twin daughters to try as they both like the looks of the Lady Smith, hey, I like it too!

I would STRONGLY ADVISE YOU to shoot an M&P 9mm before selling a superior handgun, the 3913LS, to purchase one.

Lousy, long, spongy triggers with indistinct reset and poor accuracy are hallmarks of the M&P 9mm. Don't take my word for it, do a Google search. Good luck! Regards 18DAI

I would whole heartedly agree with 18DAI!! That is one trade that I would not make owning both pistols!!

Another Vote to Keep the 3913 over the M&P 9,Try some aftermarket Grips on the 3913 if your wife dosen't like the feel of the Factory ones.

i highly agree with what has been stated above - do NOT sell it and buy an m&p! i had a hard time controlling my 3953 until I put hogue grips on it (I also have man hands for a woman). Made all the difference in the world! they were only like 20 bucks and a very worthy investment!

We sold it and have bought a few new 9mm's - M&P9 Pro, M&P9c, PM9, and G26. We have been very happy with our new purchases! The G26 was for my wife and she is very happy with it.......although she has already dropped a few hints about a G17 for her upcoming birthday in a couple of months. I would also like to add a Shield to the collection sometime but they are impossible to find.

Its priceless. You won't get a better gun to replace it. You should be flogged for even considering selling it.

I searched tirelessly for a mint condition Lady Smith 3913. Some dealer just sold one on gunbroker that wasn't as nice as yours and he got over $700.00 for it & he didn't have all the stuff that you had. I hope you got good money for yours. Anyway, I was determined to find a deal. One night after months of searching, around 2am when most of the U.S. was sleeping, I checked auctionarms for new listings. I struck paydirt! Some guy had just listed a mint condition 3913 lady smith, estate sale, so someone inherited it and just wanted to get rid of it. $400.00 buy it now!!! I couldn't hit that "buy it now" button fast enough. I called the seller & he said "it's so clean I'm not sure if it was ever shot." He knew it's true value & just wanted a quick sale. I'll never sell mine, EVER! You'd be surprised the deals you can find by checking the listings late late at night when everyone else is sleeping. I've scored great deals that way on ebay too. That gun would've been gone in the morning. This was just a few months ago. I was at a gun shop today picked up a real nice model 469 another gun that is so clean, it's mint! I got to talking to an old guy & his wife. He told me he was looking for a 3913 Lady Smith. I told him about mine & he wanted to buy it. There are so many people looking for that gun! Anyway, I was pleasantly pleased when my Lady Smith arrived at my FFL as the condition was just as nice as the pictures showed. $400.00!!!! Sweet deal!!!!

I have a 3913 I got from a deputy I work with for $380 with 4 mags loaded with black talons.they are very sweet guns. cant beat a 3rd gen auto.

I'll cast another vote for keeping the 3913. I just went to the range with my CS-9 (slightly shorter version of the 3913) and a M&P Shield 9. The third generation gun is a much better shooter than the new ones.

The Shield will be a gun to carry. The CS is a gun to shoot. There is a difference.

Trying to make sense of pricing now vs NINE YEAR OLD prices is probably a futile exercise. You might want to start a fresh thread to get some more meaningful information.

Considering myself fortunate to have recently acquired this pistol. Still has factory inspection stickers attached. This was on the want list from the late 80s early 90s, back when I would be at the News Stand each month waiting for the new gun magazines to be released. With Shipping and FFL fees this particular pistol broke $800.+, crazy I know but the heart wants what the heart wants.
Here's the funny thing; haven't shot it, only cleaned it a couple of times, not a safe queen person at all just cannot bring myself to shoot it. Been looking for used 3914 second-strike ect for range time.

The type of magazine makes a difference in gripping feel. The finger-rest type (inserted in this gun) gives a firmer grip than the truncated one beside it, which is designed for minimum printing under clothing when it's concealed-carried.

These are excellent guns; very reliable, accurate and concealable.

This is the previously mentioned 3913NL (that payed up for).
Not a safe-queen type at all, but cannot for the life of me take this one on a date to the range. It comes out of the safe wiped down admired and then put away, somehow I feel content with this, maybe it has to do with the hours reading print magazines searching for every crumb on this Smith back in the day. Because this is a "what it worth thread", total was $800+. taxes, shipping, ffl fees, etc. So given todays market what do you think a NIB 3913 unfired is worth?

The 3913's are nice guns. Every time I pull one out and shoot it, it's always a pleasant surprise. My wife carried this one for many years. It's had just shy of 9,600 rounds through it.
But lets not go overboard with how good these guns are as CCW weapons. 3rd Gen Smith's -require- regular practice to be proficient with that first DA trigger pull and the transition to the SA pull. For a CCW gun in the current market they are heavy, low capacity, and a real chore to do a complete tear down on. CCW weapons have moved on to the likes of the Springfield Hellcat or Sig P365 these days. Much lighter, more rounds, easier triggers for the average person to master and more tolerant of abuse.
The 3rd gen Smiths have become collector guns now, safe queens, which is where mine sits 99% of the time.

Every type of gun requires practice for the user to remain proficient. Anything less is likely to lead to sub optimal performance if the firearm is needed.

A 1911 is probably more complicated despite being SAO. Yet, a lot of people still carry them for self defense.

Merely because you've decided to put yours in the safe doesn't mean that a lot of other people shouldn't or aren't going to use them for self protection.
