I was surfing on the computer and saw a SW1911 Doug Koenig .45 for sale. Seller claims it was bought 5 yrs ago and only 25 rounds fired and then safe queen (king ;) ). <$900 I know you guys are going to say just buy it, but hold on there a minute.

I did some searches on the forum and seems there's nothing but good remarks about the pistol...............................4 years ago. Anything changed since then? Does that sound like a fair/good/great deal? I kinda blew my pistol budget with three new to me S&W revolvers in the last couple weeks. So I should sit tight money wise, but man that thing looks nice and with a sub $900 price it's tempting. Anything over $900 and I will have to wait a few months while I hoard some money :) and pay other bills.

My good friend just bought a new Kimber Crimson Custom Carry II and I'm heading up to meet him in May and we're going shooting and I would love to pull out a nice 1911. I have a S&W 645 that'll be with me, but that 1911..................................

SW1911 DK to buy or not to...

I'll let you know this week from my own work out. If I'm lucky, I'm off to the range for the first time with mine tomorrow. I did do some research of the "DK" model before I bought the one that I have in March. The seller also operated a range so I was fortunate enough to be able to take it for a "test drive" before I bought. I do like the Wilson Combat sights. You may already know this, but here are some of the special features:

Champion Series - Doug Koenig

• Oversized Magazine Well
• Ambidextrous Safety
• "Designed in Collaboration with Doug Koenig"
• 5" 1911 Configuration
• Doug Koenig Speed Hammer
• Flat Competition Speed Trigger
• Rosewood Grips with Smith & Wesson Silver Medallions
• External Extractor for Extremely High Reliability
• Adjustable Target Sights

Two of the RSOs/marksmanship instructors also test fired it while I was there and their hits and groups were excellent.

I passed on one about a year and a half ago and really regret it to this day, you almost never see them in SoCal.. Hear nothing but great things about them. It was going to be my 1st purchase when i escape CA., but the new full size P.C. has me rethinking that.

SW1911 DK to buy or not to...(Update)

I am with Guys 1911 on this one. Based on the results that I achieved at the range this afternoon, I'd go for it!

Model 1911s are one of my preferred handguns, after S&W revolvers. Reading through the forum posts last year the S&W 1911s appeared to be excellent performers. I did not want an "E" model. After visiting the S&W website I had decided on a S&W 1911 (Model #108299) but could not locate one. The closest substitute was the S&W 1911 DK (Model #108287). It also has the least amount of "DK" art work. I did not want to have a 1911 with the Novak low profile sights. Everyone has a different firing technique, stance, etc. Therefore, an easily adjustable rear sight was very important.

As you already know, there is a monetary premium for these models. My question was specifically, does the performance, reliability, and accuracy justify the additional cost?

Although there are still opportunities for improvement, my hits today are almost better than I anticipated. I fired rounds 1-30 to become comfortable with the 1911 DK and to determine my sight adjustments. I always spot each round after firing. I was required to move the azimuth adjustment to the right about nine clicks. I am the second owner and I have no idea what setting the previous owner used. Rounds 31-50 are closer to my expectations. Both of the targets were placed 25' away from me at a local indoor range.

Life is short buy the gun. Seen one at Gander Mountain sunday for $1899. oo.

Buy it. Very nice 1911's and hard to find in that varmint. I passed on a DK last year myself and have regretted it since.
( ps I own 4 SW1911's so may be a little biased :-)

Just my 2 cents worth....I owned one up to this year & my opinion is split. The gun shot awesome, I mean dead on accurate & smooth with a tight slide. Now unfortunately the gun broke down numerous times which required me to return it to S&W. The problems were with the actual barrel & feed area and trigger issues all which S&W fixed for free. Obviously being out of service for up to 2 months at a time bothered me & after the 3rd break down I decided to trade it in....which really disappointed me to be honest because like I said when it worked it worked awesome. I ended up buying a S&W Pro Series Lew Horton 1911 w/3" barrel and as of today & approx. 2K rounds thru her its been flawless. ;)
