Default My Newest 3rd Gen!

I'm having a pretty good day today! I went by a local pawn shop to check out a Model 4516-2 for a friend. I knew that they also had a Model 4013TSW, but since I already have one, I was just curious. Yeah, right! The 45 had been sold an hour earlier, so i looked at the 4013TSW. It was perfect...not a scratch, holster wear mark & a bright clean bore. Even the grip was in perfect shape. All paper work & matching box, too. I waffled, asked about layaway, they lowered the price a little & I was hooked. Get the gaff, open up the cooler, HOOKED! I brought my new honey home, dropped it off & headed out to Wally World. Just for grins I walked back to Sporting Goods, & heaven help me, there was ammo! Not a lot, but some. I got a box of WWB 45ACP, & a box of WWB 40S&W, both one hundred round boxes. I decided I'd better head home before my luck ran out.

Sweeeeeet. I'm not a .40 guy, but the non rail TSW semis are very nice. I wasn't looking for my 3923TSW, but when it popped up at a LGS I just had to have it.

Congrats on a excellent buy on the 4013 and the lucky buy of finding ammo. Of all of my .40's, my non rail 4013TSW is my favorite. This doesn't include my Shorty 40's, they are non shooters right now.

Man you are a lucky guy.

You are making it very hard to like you...

I swear if you tell me you got it for a song I will take back any likes I have ever given you and I'll hire a swami to cast a hex on you.

Kidding aside, nice find. It's beautiful and I'm jealous.

Lost Lake, Those "likes" are safe. It wasn't outrageous, but it wasn't cheap either. I just don't want to say how much because it would hi-light my fern like resolve! I told myself before I went in the store I wasn't going to buy it...I guess you can see what I mean by fern like resolve. It was so perfect though. I wish I could take better pics to show how good the condition is.

Why did they make TSWs without rails? Isnt that what made a TSW?

Most of the TSW's(with a few exceptions) were first offered without a rail, then the later models were "graced" with one, if I remember correctly. What makes a TSW a TSW is the fact that the slide & frame are milled together & numbered so that they are assembled together. It makes for a superior fit. The ones without rails are getting really hard to find, hence my joy at finding this one. There are other things, like having longer rails for the slide to mount on.

Nice find, Tim! I hope your resolve to keep both of them is stronger than mine turned out to be with a certain 40 model of which I found myself with two examples recently. Before long, one was whispering, "Trade me or sell me....trade me or sell me...." and lo and behold, it wasn't long before I was out of the two-gun business. Funny how tastes ebb and flow on these 3rd Gens, especially when if you're like me, you can't own and feed but a couple of 'em at a time. I'm all set now, but it took a year to get there!

We want to see more pics when you have 'em!

I know that the SCSW says that the later (rail) TSW pistols had slide and frame machined as a pair, but I've never seen that explicitly stated about the pre rail ones.

The other difference with the pre rail guns is that they had magazine capacities that were one less than the standard version. That makes them just a bit easier to conceal. The rail guns have the standard capacity of the non TSW guns. Plus they don't have the ugly bolt on rail.

Vigil617, I have a 5904 and a CS9 that keep whispering that too me, but so far I've resisted. The 5904 is a duplicate to my 5906 and I really just bought it because it was too good of a deal to pass up. $370.00 out the door with two magazines. From a FFL, no less! The CS9 was my EDC self defense gun until I got the 3913TSW and I have no real use for it. A friend of mine is interested in it, and I'll sell it if he wants it. Other than that, unless I find another 3rd generation that I really want, it can sit in the safe for a while.

I don't necessarily agree with this part, the reduced round count did apply to the early 3913TSW and maybe others. In the case of the 4013 its a different story. The original 4013 was a single stack 8 round based on a .45 compact frame. When the TSW came out they were a double stack 9 round based on a 9mm compact frame, almost a completely different pistol.

Maybe that's the secret to all this: I need to buy a safe!

Now, I just rotate my carry pistols every couple of weeks, and have a way to keep the "off duty" gun well secured.

Chiefs Specials are trying to become my next area of semi-auto interest, but so far I've been able to resist. It's getting harder and harder, though!

Apropos of Tim's description of the 4013TSW, though: sounds to me like the only difference between those and the Shorty series is that the Shortys have the spherical barrel bushing. I'm not good enough of a shot for that to make any difference, but I do love owning the Performance Center products, just to know that a gunsmith's hands were on that pistol when it was being made. Otherwise, a non-rail TSW would be my first choice

I probably should have been more specific in my comments. However, I seem to remember that non rail 45xx TSW guns also had one less round. The .40 caliber 3rd generation guns had some quirks and I'm not familiar with all of them since I'm not a .40 caliber guy.

Thanks for the correction, you've added to my meager knowledge base.

Safe? Yeah, I have one of those. And a Stack On cabinet. With a Stack On pistol cabinet bolted on top of that. And the small safe in the bedroom where I keep a couple of ready guns.

My original "safe" was an electrical panel box with a padlock. Bolted to a couple of studs. I figured I could keep all my guns in that with no problem. Silly me.

Addicted? Nah, I can quit any time I want to. I just don't want to, because no one likes a quitter!

OK! I've been playing with the camera some & I'm adding some pics that I'm not too ashamed of.

I think that these pics give more of an idea as to the pristine condition of the gun, & why I couldn't walk away from it!

None of mine are wanting to be sold. As far as 40's go, I didn't set out to be "The 40 Guy", it just kind of happened. I like 40(obviously!)& I've never had problems with the round like some people seem to have. I've got five of them now. I think that maybe enough...unless a BHP in 40 happens to find me. I need a TSW in 9mm, preferably without rail. Then I think I can stop. Who am I kidding!?

Never say never, thinking that you are done and complete. There is always that one more that will pop up that you gotta have for the collection.

Lovely pistol and a great find, I wouldn't easily walk away from one. Good thing I am not into .40s.

Congrats timn8er! Great snag!! Sweet shooters. My first and last FTF deal was on a NOS 4013TSW non-rail, with everything. Shipped March 1997 (R Jinks) You'll love it. GREAT pics!!

Too true. If I ever hit the lottery, I would be after a set of Shorties, one in each caliber offered. And from the prices I've seen on them, winning the lottery is about what it would take!
