Default .380 Bodyguard laser dead

I'm new here, and I know there are multiple threads on the laser issue, but mine's just dead. I was teaching my daughter to shoot last weekend and was using the laser to aid her and it went off between shots and would not come back on. I later installed new batteries, and nothing, tried all the "button" tricks and fixes and still nothing. Is there a way to get a replacement laser assembly?

My laser died also and I noticed that a piece of the circuit board? had fallen out when I removed it from the gun. I think S&M required a copy of my receipt of purchase. It took a couple of weeks to receive the replacement.

From the manual.

"L-3 Insight Technology Incorporated warrants that the LSW-000-A1
Integrated INSIGHT® Laser product on the BODYGUARD® 380
pistol will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a
period of twelve (12) months from the date of purchase by the original
owner."

"Warranty claims (in writing) and the Laser product concerned
should be delivered to Smith & Wesson Corp.’s Customer Service
Department, 2100 Roosevelt Avenue, Springfield, Massachusetts
01104. In addition, a copy of the bill of sale in the owner’s name
must be included."

Exclamation Body Guard Laser is Junk, can cause gun's slide not to go back!!!!!!!!!!

The Body Guard 380 Laser! Well, the screw holding the laser cover backs out, causing the slide to become stuck, no fix, you are dead! CAN"T Rack a round out, or in, stuck half way back! If you were defending your life, you're dead!

Sent it in for warranty repair, 3 weeks later, gun came back but then did not fire, have been in and out of warranty for 3 months now. NO CARRY GUN FOR 3 MONTHS. Rude customer service people tell you the problem has been fixed, NO RECALL so if your's backs out in a gun fight, You are DEAD! GARBAGE and worse is customer service reps are RUDE, Obnoxious, if you can talk to one. I learned if I want a gun that will work, I will go with anything else. If you get your gun back from warranty, take it straight to the range. Got mine back, carried it daily 3 days later took it to the range, Would not fire ( LIGHT STRIKES ) was trusting this with my life for 3 days, Back into warranty 2 more times. GARBAGE, Taurus and Glock actually get it right the first time. Last S&W I'll ever buy.

I've got a BG380. Shot over 500 rounds in it. I trust my life to this gun.

But it did have some issues:
1. Screw holding in laser backed out and locked up slide... S&W sent new screws. These were the "old style" with 0.035 hex head.
2. Laser stopped working.... sent gun into S&W, they replaced laser. They also replaced the set screw with the "new style" screw with a 0.05" hex head.

Dynoflow - sorry to hear your problems.

Always check the set screw when cleaning.

I find the laser useless. I can hit a tin can consistantly @ 10 yards with the regular sights.

Lastly, do NOT call the 800 number, you will be on hold for a long time. Send an e-mail, describe problem and give serial number, they will send you a pre-paid shipping label for warranty repairs.

I mostly ignore my laser as it works only intermittently and I would never use it in a self-defense situation anyway. Even so, if it's dead, I'd contact S&W and ask for a free replacement.

The laser screw backing out is a definite problem and can stop your gun from working entirely if it backs out. I would advise all BG 380 owners to apply a drop of Loctitle Blue to the laser screw threads.

Thanks for the info guys. The screw has stayed in place, but even after all of my attempts, no laser. It was helpful in getting my daughter shooting where she pointed. I will attempt to contact for replacement.
