Default Model 41 cleaning advice needed

I bought an old (1959) model 41 at a gun show recently. First range trip it started out shooting OK, then developed some problems with a sticking firing pin (wouldn't fire sometimes, light strikes I think, sometimes would fire when slide was racked). I believe it has a dirty firing pin channel. My question: can I clean that without removing firing pin? I've seen the online instructions about how to pull the firing pin, but I prefer to clean it with only field strip disassembly. Anybody have any experience/suggestions about what to do? Anybody ever had similar problems?
