5906 Trigger Pin Loose
Has anyone ever experienced a loose trigger pin on their 5906 while firing the gun? Any suggestions on how to "tighten" or secure this pin?

The trigger pin is actually held in place by a plunger in the trigger. If the plunger and or plunger spring are broken or stuck the trigger pin can just "walk out" of the frame. I would remove the trigger and inspect the plunger, it may just be severely dirty and stuck, or rusted stuck. If missing or broken, you'll need a replacement trigger, i'm sure S&W still stocks them, although probably only in MIM.

You might be able to just buy the spring and plunger if that's all it needs.

Hi, jseda!
I apologize if you already know this, but the trigger pin is supposed to rotate with the trigger in the frame.
If you mean it's coming out the side, then grif684 is right and the plunger and spring are probably the culprits.

I should have mentioned that many of these pistols were LE issued and were not cleaned regularly, and many of the small springs and pins would become so fouled with crud and rust that they just became stuck. We were required to clean ours in a sonic cleaner with hot soapy water after qualifying, and many people took short cuts in the proper procedure, which was to thoroughly rinse with a water displacing solvent, then blown out with compressed air, paying particular attention to those areas the water would be trapped. We had so many problems with mag release button plungers, slide stop plungers, and trigger plungers becoming stuck, that sonic cleaning was discontinued. A good soaking of your trigger in a quality solvent/lubricant, and a vigorous working with a small punch, pushing the plunger in and releasing it over and over, may get yours working again. If not, then replacement of the plunger and/or plunger spring will be neccessary. I suggested a new trigger assembly due to the tiny retention pin that holds the plunger assembly in place, it's MUCH easier to just swap out the trigger, i'm speaking from experience on this one. Good luck, I sure you'll get it working in no time...

If you mean the visible ends of the trigger pin can be seen to be rotating back & forth in the frame as the trigger is pulled and released? It's supposed to be that way. If the pin doesn't rotate with the trigger's movement, it's considered a problem that requires correction.
The trigger is an assembly, meaning in contains a small plunger & spring, which is not something disassembled by armorers. The plunger "locks" the trigger assembly to the frame's trigger pin.
Which pin are you talking about?
Grif's pics are very good, BTW.

Thanks to all who replied. Your suggestions have been very helpful and I'll be checking the trigger as you all recommended.

As one (retired) law enforcement person to another, thank you, Grif. Your images made the solution crystal clear!
