Just received a spare 4013 single stack barrel from S&W today for my 1013 project. The original barrel will be left in 40 cal for changing back and forth. I have the 10mm finish reamer, extra power mag spring, white 10mm follower and waiting for extra power return spring. If all goes well I will ream the spare barrel and alter the mags tomorrow. Perhaps I will shorten a 4516-2 spring while waiting on the correct spring. After it functions I plan to reshape the frame and have it treated to Cerakote.

If you have duel spring setup, slide the 4516 spring over the 4013 inner spring. Will work for medium to hot loads.

The barrel reaming project went very well, took about 20 minutes. As you know there is very little material to remove. The depth ended up being .991" deep with no marks. The new barrel from Smith did require a little fitting to the slide which took more time than the reaming. Anyway, borrowed a spring from my 4516-2 and test fired with one round in the unaltered mag. Seemed to shoot to the same point as the 40 cal barrel. The correct spring is on back order. Today as time allows the first mag will be converted to 10mm. I have an old orange 10mm follower which I will try first before my Midway order arrives. The orange follower came with the one and only one mag that came with my 1066. Ever notice how all these 3rd generation Smith come with only one mag? What do the owners do with the other mag?

Modified the first 4013 mag for 10mm. This took awhile to debur the eight drill holes. Only after finishing the mag did I notice that there two styles of single stack mags. See attached photo. The one I modified had an indent at the top to perhaps hold back the next round up for chambering, don't know for sure. That indent had to be ground out for the 10mm follower to clear. Shot eight rounds without issue.

Have you seen the bidding wars for a single 3913 mag on ebay. Gets to be pretty bad sometimes. People taking advantage of another's needs and wants.

Glad to hear it's going good so far. No doubt you have researched this & know what all needs to be done, so when you get a chance if you can provide a complete summary, for those sitting on the sidelines, that would be great to see. Keep us posted.

I hoped you fitted the barrel prior to the reaming???
After the barrel hood is trimmed to let the barrel fit the slide, that's what sets the proper head spacing depth for reaming depth of the chamber.

Some barrels also require some stoning where the slide stop pin holds the barrel up into lockup... Best regards! :)

Thanks for the comments. Yes I did fit the barrel to the slide before reaming. Now that you mention the slide stop area, it does seem rougher than the old barrel.
Yesterday I received the correct recoil spring from Wolf and the white mag followers from Midway. It is correctly assembled and works great. Now it is time to reduce the beaver tail, round of some edges and point up the front strap. Found a place to do the Cerakote, just have to pick a color. Maybe sniper gray!

Buffer Technologies markets a buffer for the 3rd generation S&W pistols, but it won't work in my 4053....the slide will not cycle fully, and will not cycle enough to reach the slide stop. Any recommendations for an alternative buffer solution?

BM1, where do you get a buffer for a 4013? From the last post it appears that the Buffer Technologies part does not work.

Thanks for the good buffer information, ordered three today. One for this project, one for 4563 and a spare. The frame is cleaned up and the front strap is checkered to points. It is going in for a Cerakote finish.

While waiting on the frame to come back from it's Cerakote treatment I decided to start the clean up of the slide and other parts. Have seen the brushed finish on the flats of the slide on other post and tried it here. In the process I noticed that the pin holding the extractor was down slightly from flush. This may have been the cause of some wear on the right side of the frame rail. I will know to look for this in the future. The rear sight was worn shinny to the point of being some what white. Perma Blue turned it back to a dull black. And yes, the mag safety is gone.

Picking a color for the frame drove me nuts! Cerakote has too many options. I went back and forth from wild to sedate and finally went sedate but not like original color "Blue Titanium". It's mostly a dark blueish gray. A few years ago I did a "Digital Camouflage" and well, see for yourself.
