Sticky grips
A buddy of mine gave me a S&W 22A-1 to try at the range. It is the standard 5.5 barrel blued version with 2 mags. I noticed that the black / plastic grips are overly tacky, almost as if the rubber is breaking down. Is this normal, common? Is there something I can safely clean the grips with?
I am also interested in maybe purchasing the pistol. I don't know how old it is but it looks very clean. The serial number is UCR-8**5
Any idea on the value?
Thanks

For plastic grips, spray down with WD-40 and hand massage to remove glue / tackiness. Wash grips with hot water and Dawn dish washing detergent.
WD-40 dissolves glue, Dawn will wash it all away. Dawn will not dissolve glue.

I bought a new 22A late last year, or early this year. Paid $300 for it. Has the bull barrel, and the huge target grip. Great shooter right out of the box. I have seen them used on Armslist Oh. for as low as $175. They pop up quite often, but usually $235-$250 ish. I like it better than any .22 auto I have owned. Bob

Rubbing alcohols first, then the more involved method if you feel they are still too tacky for you.

Those are the special-order "No Drop-'Em" grips.
You don't even have to grip it.
Just press your hand against them and fire away.
A word of warning, If you have it in your hand and an LEO tells you to drop the weapon, you may be screwed.
