I found a 645 in near perfect condition, in the box and never fired since it was purchased new. The lowest I can get them down to is $795. I was hoping to get some input on if it's worth it, a steal or too much money ???

Thanks

That's near the top of the mark but if it is NIB then it isn't a bad deal if you consider that you'll be handing that down to several generations of kids. IMO the 645 is the finest out of the box 45 ACP EVER! I bought mine in 87 or 88 and only just had to change the recoil spring last year (even then it still functioned fine). This is after thousands of rounds many of the loaded at +P level. You'll be happy with it.

I would agree that it's close to the top of the price point, but they are getting harder to find especially in near new condition.

Thanks for the replies ! I've seen a few for more money in near new condition, but just because you ask a price doesn't meen you will get it. I've always wanted this particular weapon so I think I will just go ahead and shell out the cash for a good one ! They do seem a bit hard to find these days and my son will definitely be owning it one day.

I do not think I would pay that much for a 645. Wait a bit to see if the price comes down or you find another. They are not exactly rare and do come up for sale. That said, it is your cash... ;)

Thanks for the input ! I really want one but don't want to get shafted ! What do you think is a fair price for a NIB never fired ? I've seen gently used with boxes and paperwork for between $ 695-850. However Iv'e only been looking for about 2 weeks.

Thanks

you answered your own question.....ask yourself what YOU would want for NIB "never fired" 645....and be realistic.....granted in another 2 weeks the market could change.....it could go even higher;)

Good point ! at first they wanted 995.... way to high for me and I got them down to 795. That's the lowest they want to go and I don't want to insult them.

If S&W still made the 645 what would it cost? It's the same money as a low end 1911 and ten times the gun. Life is short buy the 645. Best of luck.

I actually called S&W once and asked that very question. They estimated that it would retail in the neighborhood of $1200.00. So if it has never been shot and is basically NIB then you are getting a great deal if you look at it from that aspect.

The only problem with a NIB gun is that if you intend to shoot it, it very quickly becomes a used gun and the value drops. If you are a deep pockets collector and keep it NIB then it obviously remains a new gun. Having said that, I like the 645 and this one sounds very nice. It's not way high in any case.

I kinda agree with Geno,
Problem is they are putting a $250 premium on it for NIB cond.
If you then start shooting it you just depreciated it $250.

Saw a high cond gun only last year for $450 on this forum and in a local gun shop as well for $450,
I doubt they have jumped that high in 1 year so IMO its a $450 to maybe $650 tops.

A purist NIB collector may go the extra bit for condition but if you looking for a shooter aim at $500.

$795 is a lot of money, to me.

But when you look at the prices of current production guns, and compare what you recieve in return for your hard earned money, then a LNIB 645 may be worth $795.

Don't forget, there were not a million of this model made, they will not become more plentiful as time goes by, and the price of a LNIB 645 is unlikely to decrease.

On the other hand, you could buy a shooter grade 645 off the internet auctionboards for around $500 + shipping and transfer fees. How much do you then have in a shooter grade 645? $575? $600?

Hmmm........$795 at the LGS doesn't look so bad......does it?

Buy it, shoot it, love it. You will be glad you did. Regards 18DAI

Or be patient and keep looking,

IMO Eventually that 645 will drop to $600 .
You can get a nice 1911 for what they are asking with alot more parts availability,

The 745 is a nice gun but more like a 639 on steroids,

I had a 745 IPSC it was OK but I prefer the S&W 1911 design.

OP......seems to me that the $795 that you got them down to is doable to you....but came here to confirm that you weren't getting "gouged"....you held it..inspected it first hand..looked at every thing that made you conclude that it is indeed NIB....like 18DAI said you could find an auction board gun and with delivered prices that will probably approach $600....maybe with or without a box if that is important to you...and maybe it looks good in those hi-def pics....but is a little tired in function and a $30 spring service pack is in order...and if you are like most and don't have the wear with all to completely strip your new toy with confidence and need a smith or an armorer and your next door neighbor isn't Fastbolt...that may cost another $_______....I don't know...fill in the blank..........to me a little peace of mind has got to be worth a little.......I get the argument that NIB gun when fired is now a used gun.....would that keep you from trying to buy new 1969 Chevelle SS..........the only thing that would stop me is I no longer could afford one:rolleyes:

Welcome to the Forum! I am partial to the 645, but putting my personal feelings aside, that is truly the peak of the price point unless it is an interim or pilot gun. I guess ultimately you will make the decision, and either way you will not go wrong. Quality like the 645 does not come around often. I know you will be happy with it whether it is a safe queen or a shooter. I think we would all love to see pictures after you buy it. :)

I have purchased many used handguns in my life. But when I can buy new or nib for in the two hundred dollar range, will that's a no brainer. Just my two-cents.

I said this in the other thread you posted in ->Unless you plan on making it a safe queen, move on. That is a lot of money for a 645.<- I stand by it in this thread. If you are into collecting, get it. If you want to shoot it, look for another.

I got it for $750 .... feel like I paid too much but it's a beautiful weapon that my son will one day own. On the other hand I feel if I want to enjoy a 645, I need to purchase a worn or used one to shoot, instead ot ruining my newly purchased (Safe Queen). I've been watching lightly used ones go in the 700's so I don't feel I got completely got hosed, but I didn't steal it !!

I really appreciate all the feedback from everyone and I'm looking forward to being a member!!

Think I might look for a LE trade in, or a worn 645 in the high 300 range to make my shooter!!
