Thought I’d jump on and ask for some assistance (lest I invariably break something!). I recently purchased a S&W 52-2 and, of course, want to field strip it down and clean it up. The manual that came with the gun is the all-inclusive S&W “centerfire pistols” manual, and albeit has the model 52 listed in the table, the manual does not address anything about the bushing on the 52. Before I start taking things apart and possibly doing any damage to the firearm, I thought I’d ask you folks about it. Any help, hints, secrets, warnings, etc. would be greatly appreciated! Also, I’m curious to find the date of mfg. on this piece. It’s a one-piece blue box model 52-2, S/N TZA675x. Thanks in advance guys/gals!

It's been a while since I took mine apart but it is basically like any other 1911 style pistol. Main difference is pushing in the pin that holds the barrel bushing in place. You may have received a special tool for that but you really don't need it. After that it's just remove the slide, take the barrel and spring and guide rod out of the slide and clean them up. The frame can be cleaned with a rag or q-tip or whatever else you use. (that tool called a finger is helpful) If you have a spray cleaner like CLP that helps along with an air compressor to blow it clean. If you aren't familiar with taking a 1911 style apart check u-tube, may even be one for a 52.

Sweet shooter

You made a wonderful purchase. I have a 52-2 that has performed like a champ. It has such a good trigger and soft recoil. I mounted a Leupold EER scope directly onto the slide. Functioned perfectly. Loaded 2.9 g BE over a 148g WC. Shot very small groups.

No longer shoot bullseye pistol. Planning to sell. Excellent condition in original box and two magazines. Interested in what you paid for yours. Looks like they sell in the $12-1400 range.

I also just bought a 52-2 and iam looking for a manual, but my question how do you adjust the trigger pull?

My 52-1 about 3,000 units older than the one in the video.

What makes mine special (to me) is the engraving that indicates it was the one given to USAMU Sgt Bonnie D. Harmon when he won the 1965 National Center Fire Championship (.38 Bullseye, Clarke Trophy) at Camp Perry.

Yes, I'm going to get it lettered.
It's NIB, though 49 years old.
I paid a "shooter grade" price for it.
I bought it from a friend who bought it about 30 years ago.
He felt as though the engraving devalued it, even though it appears to be factory.

What would be the effect on value of the gun being the one awarded to a Camp Perry champion?
I bought it to shoot, and new nothing of it's history.
Then, I started searching and asking questions online.

Only a factory letter can give documented proof, but there really wouldn't have been any reason to counterfeit one. Too much expenditure for too little return.
