S&W CS45 Chiefs Special Price Check
Just found one at Cabelas and put it on layaway. Comes with fours mags and box for $530, is this a fair price or not? The condition of the gun looks like new, sights are bright and no visible scratches or dings.

With four mags I think that's a pretty good deal. And if you are saying it's the night sights version and they still work then I would say it's a heck of a deal.
Check me on this though, I think I just read S&W said they are dropping parts support for the 3rd gen guns. Just an FYI as I'm sure there are plenty out there but it's something to know.

I'm pretty sure it's the night sights version and they seem very bright. I didn't break the gun down, but from the outside it's looks like it's had little to no use. I pondered buying it last month while in Cabelas, and talked myself in to putting it on layaway this time. My luck it would have been gone the next time I went.
It's good to know they are dropping the parts, I'll pick up some springs for all my third gens just incase.

That's a whole lot gun for the money. Looking forward to the pics and range report. Best of luck.

Should have it in a week or so. Put down a 20% deposit and selling my Glock 27 to pay for the rest. My least favorite gun ever, but couldn't pass it up when I saw it for $300.

The last CS45 I saw and tried to buy was on gunsamerica, do not know how much I missed it by? but it went for 350-375, it was not in NIB condition though.

I'm not sure if Bigdog grips is still up and running but he offered a few different grip options for the CSxx series:
I went with the extended grip so it fills my hand a little better. If you can make it out in the pic, the grip area where the beavertail is doesn't match up since the grip is really made to fit from a different model but it's not hard on your hand at all. And it feels so much better than the fat Hogues that come on the gun. And for whatever reason my Hogues were sticky with something. I think the previous owner used some solvent to clean that didn't agree with the Hogue rubber.

Anyone know where I can get 3rd gen parts and springs that are in stock. I'm mostly looking for some replacement springs for a few of my guns.

Thanks for the heads up. Tried them both, but no parts or springs for the CS45
Just got off the phone with S&W and have to say I was very impressed with there customer service. They found the parts I needed, and are sending them out at no charge. Didn't expect that at all, two thumbs up from me.

Received my spring and guide rod yesterday from S&W. Just outstanding customer service, and I'm very happy to continue to buy Smith and Wesson guns.

Am I correct in assuming (after mucho archive research) that Big Dog is now out of this business? I've got a CS40 on lay-away and I sure would like a pair. The rubber Hogues don't do anything for me.
Someone must know?

Yeah, I had the same thought. I'm just surprised that there was no announcement (if there was, I didn't find it). Big Dog suddenly just disappeared. Hope it wasn't a health issue.

Buy a set of delrin grips from one of the other 3rd gen 45's and mod 'em yourself
Heck, you are only limited by your skill and imagination!!
That being said, measure three times, mark your cut path, and make it smoothly.

Great gun and at that price you practically stole it.
Others will disagree because 5 years ago they or someone they heard about bought one like that for $400 (I've been lucky like that a couple of times). But try to find anything else halfway as nice these days for that price. The only guns that come close are the SIG P239SAS Gen 2 or certain compact 1911's.

I bought a couple in 2004. A new .45ACP for $550 and a used 40 S&W for $360 which came with box, papers and two mags. There was a coupon to get two extra mags free with the .45ACP, so maybe that is where the four mags comes from. I sort of wanted a 9mm so I could have "3 little chiefs", but have never stumbled across one at a good price.
The .45 has the ambi safety by the way.
