Default 6906 Field Strip Problem

A neighbor has a 6906 that he is having a problem with. So he asked for my help, and I figured I would do some research.

The slide stop pin does not want to come out. He had a gunsmith work on it, who had to use a press to get the pin out.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

1) To get it out now.

2) How to fix this so it doesn't happen again.

Thanks.

Sounds to me that the spring loaded pin on the end of the guide rod was stuck. once fully assembled the pin fits into a notch in the slide stop pin. Check the pin to see if it will compress or it the radius on the end is not damaged.

the pin on my 6904 appeared to be stuck...I could not get it to budge. I put some gun oil around it, both sides, and let it sit a half hour or so. It came out fine after that. I certainly would think a 'smith would do that, too, so it may not help, but worth a try.

good luck

Mine is difficult to remove, as well.

I have had some stubborn slide locks in the past....but a PRESS??...my guess is that it hasn't been out in a loooooong time.....I cured my stubborn locks with a little Ballistol on the plunger assembly then spinning the stem pinched with a grey scotch brite pad and more Ballistol as lube.....now all my slide locks push out with finger pressure as designed

Bingo! You beat me to it, but that is how I fixed my stubborn pin - now it works great

I've sometimes found a guide rod plunger with a peened/rolled burr on the top edge, or a slide stop lever pin with a burr within the scalloped recess that holds the plunger head. Lightly dressing the burred spot, and a very small drop of oil (or grease) on the lever's pin, usually served to resolve the issues.

Of course, many more times it's usually been caused by the owner/user not properly aligning the slide & frame notches for lever removal, or letting the slide/frame alignment shift while they were trying to remove the slide stop lever, and then no amount of force was going to work.
