Name that part question...
Can someone tell me the name or part number of the part used to hold the mainspring plunger on the cs45 Hogue grips? See attached pic with the circled part.
Thx

"Mainspring retainer" according to the Hogue installation sheet.

You're welcome. BTW, there is NOTHING that flies across the room like a detent pin for an AR15 pivot pin. NASA doesn't do nearly a good a job at putting things into orbit.

The black plastic base you circled is a Hogue part, but remember that you still need to use the black plastic mainspring plunger (think "hammer spring cup" ) with the Hogue part.
You also still need to use the factory grip pin, as that secures the Hogue base in the frame, even though the Hogue grip stocks (panels) are secured to the Hogue base with screws. It should stick out an equal amount to each side once reinstalled, and the grip stocks have room for ends of the pin.
BTW, I notice you removed the magazine catch assembly and it's plastic mag catch nut. Armorers are told that once the black plastic nut is removed from the steel mag body pin, it should be replaced with a new nut. The raised rib inside the plastic nut might not securely hold onto the mag body pin again, once removed. It's a 1-time snap-on plastic part, and if removed for servicing (meaning repair), it should be replaced.
S&W part# 239090000 $5.80 X MAGAZINE CATCH NUT
The mag catch 'tornado' spring is installed back onto the mag catch body's pin with the large end facing outward, meaning facing against the bottom of the mag catch nut. It's been pictured backwards in the armorer manual for several years (slipped through editing, somehow, I've been told).
Personally, I've never had reason to ever remove the ones in my CS9 or CS45.

"Tornado spring". I've never heard them described that way, yet I knew exactly what you were talking about.
I'll be using term in the future. Bicycles have several of them.
Thanks!

I think the first time I heard that term used, that I can remember, was in a 3rd gen pistol armorer recert. It almost seemed familiar for some reason, though.

Lost it ? After you buy another, pay an outrageous price , plus shipping, wait for it, then get it all installed , back up and running, ...one day, when you least expect it , that bad boy's going to turn up! Happens every time.

I just hope that S&W's lawyers haven't trade marked that term. I'll be in big trouble!

Ain't that the truth? I have more duplicate tools because I tore the house apart looking for one, couldn't find it, and bought a new one. Only to have the "lost" one turn up one day after the return period expired.
Anyone need a 1/4 drive 4" extension? I have two.
