My first S&W semi auto
I have a number of S&W revolvers, have a hard time passing up a K frame snubby, or a J, L, or N for that matter. Made my first venture into the land of S&W autos today, my 5906 should be here middle of next week. A corrections department trade in.
Any thing special I need to know about these pistols?

You picked a good one to start with. The 5906 is not a picky eater; just use quality ammo. Keep it clean & lubed & it will last a long time. Depending on the shot count, you may want to consider a new recoil spring, usually available from Wolff Springs. Enjoy your new pistol!

Nice choice for your 1st 3rd Gen Semi Auto, you will enjoy it. But now the collecting of more begins, I guarantee it.

Congrats!
I like K snubbies as well. The 5906 is a great range gun or HD gun and should serve you well.
Please post photos when you get it.

Just be careful. There is a very real posibility of addiction. The 5906 is a very good start.

The 5906 is a great baseline that you can measure the rest of the 3rd Gens you will soon purchase against.

I've got the previous gen 659. It's heavy. It's tough looking.
It's a tank of a pistol. I haven't made space for range time to see how it performs,
but from what I've been told, I'll be pleased.
Bet you will too. The 5906 may be the next semi I aquire.

Congratulations! I'm a big fan of 3rd Generation Smiths and I now have five. I bought my 5906 about nine months ago and I love it. The only thing I don't like about it is the adjustable sights. I would have preferred fixed but that's pretty minor. I think you will quickly learn to appreciate the quality, accuracy and heft of your new gun. I love the feel of steel!

The 5906 is a "gateway gun". Once you own one, you'll want more 3rd generation guns. They are a dream to shoot. The weight makes it a stable shooting platform as well as eating up recoil.

My brother is a revolver guy. Took a few handguns to his place to shoot. When he shot my 5906, it kept jamming on him, but when I shot it, no problems. I told him that he was limp wristing and to "lock" his wrists. No problems for him after that.

I didn't know it was possible to limp wrist a 5906! My Walther PPK/S will complain if not handled firmly but all my 3rd gens just feed, fire and eject. I'm surprised a revolver guy would have a relaxed grip...my revolvers keep me honest.

I don't recall what we were shooting, just some cheap target ammo. I was surprised with all of his jams, but I had no problems. His forte is with rifles, especially with black powder and 32 Winchester.
