New SW22 Victory 22LR target pistol?

Time will tell. It's no uglier than a Ruger 22/45, and those are selling as fast as the factory can crank them out. If it has a decent trigger, it reliably feeds a wide variety of standard and high velocity ammunition and the price point is near or below a Ruger MKIII, I predict a rosy future for it. If there's anybody out there who seriously believes you can tell how a pistol shoots by how it looks or how much it costs, please contact me. I have some scarce and valuable beachfront property near the Las Vegas Strip I can offer you at a real bargain price.

My biggest complaint is the reusing of the name Victory, but at least they didn't call it the Bodyguard .22.

Bodyguard, Chief's Special, Military & Police all have been overused. Time for some new names. It worked with the Shield didn't it?

I do like the magazine release location better than the 22A/22S, but I am a righty. Hopefully they will release one with no sights and a picatinny rail on top with black or two tone finish.

Another link with a short video.
SW22 Victory .22 LR - Smith & Wesson

OK that video tells you a lot.

Looks like they've taken the take-down (although they've replaced the button with a bolt) they ripped off from High Standard for the 22a and combined it with ripping off the integral Ruger barrel / receiver / with an internal bolt design.

Not a bad idea. The only thing is to swap the barrel, since it comes with the receiver, ....well that makes it an FFL item I think.

I'm interested in checking out the SW22 Victory. I have 2 sw41s and i'm looking for a .22 pistol to just plink with . I only use standard velocity cci in the 41s, with the Victory i could use high velocity or what ever it will shoot.

Curious if doing a thorough takedown is as frustrating as taking down a Ruger MK1, II, or III...

If not, then it's already a winner in my book. :)

Not a huge fan of how it looks, but then again, I own and carry a Glock too... I'm a function over fashion fella.

I'm betting this is just the next plinking class offering from S&W. Since I'm still smarting from my 622,422 and 22A (wishful) experiments, I'll pass.

If you want a true "target pistol" in the sub $500 range, stick with the proven Ruger MK II/III/22/45 or Browning Buckmark. All you need to do is to visit any rimfire Bullseye/Gallery League firing line in the country to see what works when the scoring starts. Other than the venerable model 41 (which cost way north of $500), you won't find many other S&W rimfire pistols there.

I have owned Ruger semi-auto .22 pistols since 1965 and am a huge fan of them, particularly the MKII versions. Having said that, I've always been intrigued with the various similar pistols offered by other manufacturers, and I'm looking forward to being able to read some reviews of this pistol by gun magazines and being able to handle one myself. I'm basically a plinker at heart, and this type of pistol is always of interest to me.

I like stainless steel, and have no problems with the use of polymer for frames or various parts, and I much prefer this type of .22 caliber pistol over say a Ruger SR22 or the Smith & Wesson MP22. If reviews are favorable, and the on hands experience is positive, I could see myself owning one at some point.

Barrel change feature....

The barrel is removable from the receiver by a simple screw. That's how you use the after market barrels. Nice touch!

The old 41...

At the arthritic age of 86, I've downsized my competitive shooting to my old S&W M41. I bought it in 1967 for $110(sigh), shot in league competition using many thousand of rounds without a lick of trouble.....just cleaned it. S&W seems to be wanting to phase out the 41. There are no extra barrels being made. The old 5 inch light field barrel sells used for $500 while the 5 1/2" and 7 3/8" are about $375! Old 41's sell for $1400, same as new ones. Pity! Look what happened to the discontinued Model 52!....no spare parts!

S&W seems to be run by accountants and lawyers....shooters don't count, hence the cheaply produced Victory 22 is being touted. It must be true that fast nickels are better than slo-o-o-w dimes.

Lots of negative comments and seems like no one has even had 1 in their hands yet. Lets see:
1. easy take down & ability to replace barrels with removal of one screw
2. silencer ready
3. can easily add a rail and optics
4. aftermarket barrels already in production
5. Comes with fiber optic sight & sights are easily swapped out
6. probably have a street price around 300 bucks
Leggo gun that's easy to work with.
Sounds like a fun plinker to me & will be looking for one.

Bah, on you naysayers. I like it, the design improvements over Ruger's and the link up with Volquartsen. Buy and shoot it as is for a supurbly accurate plinker or install a Volquartsen barrel and go compete with the best. I think S&W is on to something! ............

Looks nice! Glad to see S&W making a new product that I will actually probably buy. Sometimes I feel bad just buying all their old stuff second-hand, but.. that's their problem, not mine.

I wonder if someone will make a shoulder stock and a 16" barrel so we can see what kind of heart attack the ATF has.
