6906 sights on 669 slide
I recently acquired a very nice 669 through an inheritance. But, my eyes are past middle age and the 669 sights are getting harder to pick up, particularly the front sight. I'm considering having 6906 sights installed. I know the 669 front sight would have to be milled off and a dovetail cut in for the front sight. Also, I'm looking at a Novak fixed rear which would also require milling the slide for the Novak base.
I've checked Numrich and they stock 6906 two front sights as well as a three (really two) dot and a Novak rear sights. Of the two front sights, one is listed as a .204 and the other has no dimension. My question is which front sight , the .204 or the other "standard" one, match to the Novak?
Also, it looks like the 6906 three dot rear sight would require less or no machining of the slide in order to fit. Does anyone know if the 6906 three dot rear sight fit the existing dovetail on the 669 slide? If so, I'll probably go with that option.
I've considered the option of just buying a 6909 slide. However, the current price of 6906 slide without barrel seems to be about $175. I'm sure that machining a dovetail for the front sight would cost less than that and avoid any barrel fitting work.

All of these sights should fit the same cut (these are S&W part numbers and will not match with Numrich). They are essentially the same sight but differ in presentation (outline/dots/blank). They look like the attached picture (early 6906).
100790000 - 469/669 white outline
104500000 - early 3906/5906/6906 white dots
234490000 - 915/411 blank
The front sight should be .204 according to the parts list - https://www.smith-wesson.com/wcsstor...ist_Retail.pdf
Since you are having the slide machined for the front sight, you could also consider night sights. My 3906 came with the those pre-novak sights and the Trijicons literally transformed the pistol.

Thanks! Your info helps tremendously. I just have a hard time with the factory sights because of age. I'll explore the night sights. Otherwise, the 669 seems like a nice pistol.

Just FYI - you may want to check if your pistol was involved in the recall discussed here - New to me 469

I did. It is out of the SN range. It did have a safety problem when I got it in that when I racked the slide, decocked the hammer, returned the decocker to fire, and tried to shoot DA or SA the firing pin was blocked and the pistol would not fire. I contacted the Mothership and they accepted it for a recall evaluation. S&W installed a new sear and sear release lever in my 669 on their dime. They could have charged me for that repair but didn't.
My experience is that S&W's customer service goes far beyond what they need to. I've used S&W's customer service about two years ago for the 686 hammer nose bushing recall and my 686 came back with a new bushing professionally installed and a little action tuning as added value. I think S&W does take care of it's customers.

Have you contacted Novak to get an estimate on them doing the machine work and installing which sights you want.

I hadn't thought of that. I may contact them. There is a good smith locally and I thought I'd contact him about the work
