Default New sights for 3913

I sent my slide to Trijicon to re lamp the original night sights.
They wrote back that they would like to replace the originals with their SA08 sight. It is supposed to be similar to the Novaks.
Can anyone comment on the Trijicon SA08?

Trijicon has two sights that fit the 3913. For the $20, I don't see much difference.

Your thread's timing is perfect for me - I'm about to send my 6906 slide to them for relamping. I understood that the price was $57 + return shipping. Not to be too nosy - but are you going to have to pay full price for the new sights? Thanks!

That seems odd - did they give a reason for this change? It would be interesting if your original night sights had Meprolight tubes.

Same here, I have weak lamps on my 1076, and I was quoted $54 for re-lamping it. Now to be honest, it was several months ago when I inquired about it. I filled out the forms, but never packaged up my slide for shipment. I believe this thread has motivated me to get 'er done.

I was given the same $57 for relamping and they ship back. But yesterday I got an email requesting permission to swap sights for $173.
Now they have my slide there and I would rather someone else replace them (not me). The money difference from retail price pays the installation if they install and return.
So I posted this thread for feedback.

The original sights were Novak I think. The SA08 looks better from the picture I saw.

I will be calling them back this afternoon. Waiting to here your opinions.

Ouch - this is big news and, to me, a huge price difference!! I hope they are still willing to re-lamp the old-style sites – I'm on SS and just don't have the cash to pay almost $200 for new sites… . Somehow, I just can't help to think that there's a profit and cash flow motive on their part…

A few threads up from this one is a similar question and here is my answer to it:

Here is another way to go: There is a licensee of Trijicon in the next little town to them by the name of "ToolTech Gunsmithing". They do most all of Trijicon's required re-lamping. If you want to keep the sights you have just send your slide to ToolTech and they will re-lamp it at a reasonable cost. Their phone number is: 248.628.1811 . Don't bother to go to their web site because it is in the middle of being revised and is all but unusable. Also it is a great chance to get the front sight in one color and the two rear dots in another. I never could figure out why it is the usual practice to make all three dots the same color. ......

Unless they can give you a reason the original sights can't be re-lamped, I would insist on the $57 re-lamp if for nothing else than the financial difference.

Some of the Trijicon sights have a warranty for 10 years. I have a M&P 40 that needed the sights changed. I talked to Trijicon and gave them the date on the rear sight. They were still in warranty and they changed or relamped at no cost to me. Just sayin

Hate to be the dissenting opinion here and probably gonna catch some flak but IMO night sites are superfluous fluff ,
IMO a CCW handgun is used for self defense when your life is being threatened and that does not occur at long ranges beyond where instinctive shooting dominates .

In other words if it is dark and you need to take the time to align your sites for a self defense shot within the short distance where a bad guy can threaten your life .....something aint right.

Perhaps better to invest that money instead on ammo practicing to instinctively hit a man sized target that can threaten your life at 10 to 15 feet without the use of sites .

Okay I spoke with Trijicon. They do not re lamp non Trijicon sights and offered their sight at retail but no charge for install or return shipping.
I went with the SA08 as I like the sight and think they will do better at installing them.
Bummer for the price but it is an upgrade.

I wasn't clear, when I questioned having mine relamped, on how/when you pay. They didn't say to send a check with the slide. Do you have to call them & give them your credit card number once they finalize a price? How much is shipping?

Some sights cannot be re-lamped. I just sent in my '98 P225 slide to get the sights re-lamped and they said they could not do it but offered to replace them with a new set for the re-lamp fee of $57. I should get the slide back on Monday.

Now as to S&W sights, if it came with original Novak style I believe the SA24 is the correct Bright and Tough night sight. The SA08 look different but fit the Novak dovetail I think. The SA24 retail for $153 and the SA08 retail for $173. I prefer the look of the SA24.

As for payment after my slide was inspected they sent me an email with the price. I called and authorized a CC for the $57. The return shipping (UPS) is included.

To each is own, but...

As a LEO I have been in situations where there is enough light to identify a threat, but not be able to pick up standard sights. Night sights help immensely with this.

My personal preference is for a front night sight and a serrated black rear. This allows for a clear, unencumbered sight picture in lighted conditions while the tritium front give to dot to index on target in low light situations.

Of course that's just my 2 cents.

You need to call or email first to get a number. Without that they do nothing. Then you send in what they tell you. In my case just the slide.
They will call or email back with a price. You pay when authorizing the work. And they send it back paid and insured.

Yeah, they wouldn't do $57 for mine. Could have gone with the SA24.

This is a whole other discussion with lots of personal preference. That said, if someone has you or a member of my family held at gunpoint, you want me to have the best sights possible because I am not lowering my gun.
