Default Model 41 Sight Elevation Adjustment Issue

I have a 1958 41 that shoots too high and I cannot drop the rear sight enough to fix. The elevation nut bottoms out and it is still about 4” high at about 30 feet. Am I missing something here or do I just need to get used to aiming low?

I know the elevation nut is bottomed out because I had to replace the first one that I overtightened (that was not fun project). When I push down on the sight itself, it is stiff with no more play.

The gap between the slide and top of the barrel looks consistent to me.

Hmmm that's is an interesting dilemma. Have you tried shooting with the false muzzle removed?

Is the tiny spring still under the sight as that can make a difference. Mine did the same until I changed out the rear sight spring and then I could adjust it much easier. Sometimes its actually set too low and will do that.

No, I have not, but didn’t thank bk that would effect anything (does not extend beyond the crown of the barrel), but worth a shot I guess

Yes, it is still there. The clicks are easy, and I can tell it is bottomed out.

My unprofessional opinion is if the rear sight is bottomed out, the sight blade may be too tall. Before I would start messing with that I would have someone else shoot it and see how it hits with them behind the sights. I know S&W made different hight rear blades for revolvers but unsure about the M41.

Something is wrong there. The blade shouldn't be angled.

Good idea, will do. I was also shooting off of a rest, and I realize now that I should probably shoot it freehand instead. Could be user error?

I have two Model 41's, one Model 41-1, and one (extra) "field" barrel(??). All the blades are angled.

I reckon I have a problem---or maybe somebody else has a problem---somewhere----somehow---sometimes; or maybe all the time.
