457 Zander UPDATE-Roy Letter

Drop the mag and take the top end off. Holding the frame, like you were going to shoot it, look forward of the magwell.

See that copper/brass looking little set of ears? Put the eraser up against it and GENTLY PUSH IT FORWARD. About 1mm. Reassemble and try the single action pull. If the "click" is gone, you are GTG.

If it is still present, repeat and gently push another 1mm forward on the ears. That should have cured the problem. Good luck! Regards 18DAI

ClickittyClick

Thanks to everyone for this assistance. Made me more aware and comfortable with this pistol. I cemented the deal...457 + $$$ for my 639...both parties are happy!

"Not sweating the click...not able to hear it from my house..."

Will update once we DROS and Jail Time is over. The pencil eraser fix is 1st.

Best, Dave

If you bust ‘em, I’ll take the useless metal off your hands. How ‘bout $10 an ounce?

Seriously, $85 to swap out the spring, labor only? Is it possible the guy has no idea what you actually want done?
He is a generalist, not a 3rd Gen specialist (do they even exist anymore except for BMCM?). So it's one hour of labor @ $75 plus $10 for test firing afterwards (his requirement, not my request).

Truthfully, he may have never done one before, but he does claim to have worked on S&W semi-autos in the past. The guy has an excellent reputation in our area, but again... not a 3rd Gen specialist. :o

This 457 is calling me but the click caused pause with the high condition example. I'm just not convinced that this didn't have a spa day in a sonic tank along the way...current owner mentioned the grip was replaced due to handling marks and his OCDness.

For a pistol with literally "very little/no use" it's kinda unusual isn't it? Screams used to me more than parked in the back of the safe.
Let me give you my data point. :D I've owned four 457S (S for stainless) pistols so far. One is as close to 100% NIB as you can get today. Two are excellent...98+ percent... also boxed. One was a "used & abused" (emphasis on used) mess that I never should have bought (long story) and sold quickly thereafter at an embarrassing loss. :o

Guess which ones have or had the most and least "clicking" issues?

Hint: It is exactly backwards from what you might think. ;)

Answer: The newest/cleanest 457S clicks like mad, the "used & abused" one never made a sound. Go figure.

OK, how's this? I'll reimburse you the $85 AND kick in $7 an ounce.

457 in the Stable

Thanks to all for their experience and solid info. Would have been very foolish of me to pass on this. Taken in partial trade with 5 S&W Mags vs all of the $$$. $$$ who cares...the 457 yes.

18DAI thanks for your excellent instruction. 1st time gentle push on the ears with pencil eraser. Still clicky. 2nd time gentle + with a chopstick flat end. Boom - No Click. Amazing.

Letter request already off to Mr. Jinks to "verify" the Zander stat, etc. Will update again.

SEE attached for obliged pics. Instead I got this puzzling message multiple times:

Oh well the pics are awesome...Best, Dave

Congrats HYPURR!! :)

Great pistol. Enjoy yours! Regards 18DAI

457 Pics Added

Here are some pics for fun...Once I broke it out of jail last Friday went right to the Range. 100 rounds of fun. Tomorrow more of the same. Shoots and runs great. Very familiar/similar to my 4513s and PC Shorty 45.

Any one know what brand/size - slip over tactical/slim/finger groove or not might fit this pistol?

Best, D

In all my 3G experiences and examples thru the years I've yet to come across this "click" until now.

You've had good luck! :D

I passed on a smokin' deal on a 4506 some years ago because I didn't know about the "click." :(

Just got my new-to-me 4506 back from Duncan's Gunworks. It came with the "click" and cost $65 to fix. The parts are dirt cheap from Numrich.

By co-inky-dink I picked it up today and dropped off a 457 for the same thing. Mine is nowhere near as nice as the one you got though. ;)

457 Roy Letter Received!

Update and finish to the story...Received my Roy Letter > SEE Attached.

Apparently my Zander is really a "Hill Country Sports Inc., Austin TX." Also a special Two Tone finish. Noted - the pins used in this model are stainless steel.

Only 200 units total production. Unsure if that is Zander and Hill Country together or? Either way there can't be that many 457 TTs by what I have actually seen thru the years...sure someone more knowledgeable than I will chime in.

This is a great 3G. Just love the pistol.

200 seems low for Zander and Hill Country combined. As you don't have the box, you can't check the product code against the Zander one.

No really matter, they are great guns to own and shoot.

LOL!!! :) I've seen more than 200 doing my gun shopping route in just one long day. :p

Something is fishy there. :)

++++++++++

ETA: Well, maybe not. But sometimes it sure seems that way. ;)

Hey cherrypointmarine what are the Product Codes on your "Zanders?"

Per Roy my Hill Country Product Code is 130120.

03FatBoy letter was attached to my post. I can see it. Can everybody else see it?

I have attached again for good measure.
He probably can't open a PDF. Here is a jpeg. :)
