Thumb safety issue 380 EZ
Last week I purchased a M&P 380 Shield EZ. Went to
the range today to put some rounds through it. When firing the pistol, I noticed I was firing the pistol with the thumb safety in the safe position. Upon further investigation, the safety worked as it should as long as the grip safety wasn’t depressed. When the grip safety was depressed, it would fire with the safety on. The pistol is on its way to S&W for service. It will be difficult to have trust that any gun safety is really “safe”. Just wanted to pass on today’s experience. Thanks.

Most user I have talked to have suggested not getting the thumb safety option on the 380 EZ as it is easy to accidently put it on while firing. Will be interesting to hear what Smith tells you. I know sometimes there is confusion on safeties because they can be reversed in position from one make and model to another.

Never had that issue on my EZ9. Guys recommend riding the safety but I just feel like I’m gonna get my thumb sliced by the slide. All my M&P’s have thumb safeties. I find the EZ to be or a positive click then my Compact 2.0.
I’d like to be able to remove the right side lever and I also wish the safety wasn’t so big. Something between the regular Shield and the others. I had a Ruger SR9 once and that safety was perfect

The safety on my 380 Shield EZ will not go up or down. It, too, is on its way to S&W for service.

After reading the thread I checked mine. My safety works like it should but I never use it. And I agree it would be nice if lever was smaller. I think the grip safety is sufficient (IMHO).
