M39 carry gear?
As I've already bored some with the story of obtaining a good condition M39, enjoyed a single range outing so far where it functioned fine with a very wide range of ammo, I'll skip most of that.
Have yet to see how the ProMag magazines work.
Was going through my multiple 'tubs o' holsters' and making sure I had nothing that wouldn't work before ordering a custom/semi-custom option from one of a few favorite leather crafters I'm fond of.
Did order a single stack mag holder from El Paso Saddlery, as nothing I had was quite right.
Found that a few holsters I had designed for a 3" M1911 seem to fit quite well. One is a Kirkpatrick pancake with a 'sweat shield', the other a Wild Bill's Concealment in the Avenger scabbard design (one of my favorite designs).
Of course, there's not likely a store in the nation where you could walk in and find a decent holster for a M39, other than a Chineez nylon fits most design.
Just sorta polling guys here on what they've found they enjoy that's a specific M39 holster. I only do OWB designs, IWB has always been uncomfortable due to numerous back injuries.
Thanks!

Back when I carried a Model 39-2, I used a Bikini style holster, with no retention strap. Of course back then I really didn't worry about scratching a gun or wearing the blue. I could always go down to the gun store and buy another one if I wanted a bright shiny one.
Oh, for those days again.
Now that I think of it...that Bikini holster was a Smith and Wesson brand.

I don't really carry this one (a rare pre-39) but did get a George Lawrence holster for it, somewhat period correct.
I do have a black Bianchi basketweave plus a matching Don Hume double mag pouch (both specific to the 39) I might part with...

mtrcustomleather.com lists the S&W Model 39 in their list of holsters.
I have one of their Avenger Scabbard Holster. Very nice fit.

For those of you who have researched this; is there a currently available holder for two mags? I would prefer one well fitted enough to hold them by friction alone without a strap or flap. I’m 71 years old, so I won’t be doing back flips. Ideally this mag holder and a matching style holster should fit my 1 1/2” belt that I normally wear to hold up my pants. Any suggestions? TIA!

wyo-man - Thanks, was not familiar with them, and they're right here in my own state.
Thanks to a forum member, I got a heads-up on a 'bay listing that looked good and ordered it, but it's a pancake, while my favorite design is the Avenger scabbard design which MTR offers, along with many options on the holster - stitching color, double -row, exotic leathers and trim, lined or not, etc. Pretty impressive.
We'll see how the 'bay purchased one works out, but very well may end up ordering the MTR.
Thanks!

When I retired and sold Lobo Gun Leather one of the items included was a S&W Model 39-2, one of the pieces that was always in demand for holsters. Suggest you contact Mark or Matt at Lobo Gun Leather for a dozen or more holster designs that can be made for your 39.

Ray, your old Lobo Avenger scabbards are very numerous in my holster tubs. Some stamped with the 'wolf mark', some not. Still enjoying them.
Recall getting a stack of your business cards and handing them out to many customers at a LGS I used to work at. (Not sure the boss was all that thrilled about it....)
Hope you are well.....

I have a few CZ 75s (BD, Compact D, PCR, 2075 RAMI), as well as a S&W 6906 and a Model 39.
I've found, at least with leather, that a holster designed for the Glock 19 will normally work quite well for other handguns in the same size and weight class.

Don't you find all that plastic cross contamination to be objectionable?

BB57 - When I was going through my holster accumulation, found a couple made for the M1911 3" (Officers Model size) fit pretty good, not perfect, but good enough for the M39 until I could get an actual specific made-for design. One's a Kirkpatrick pancake with sweat guard, the other a Wild Bill's Concealment Avenger scabbard.
Truth be known these would do fine, except for some OCD tendencies I have that dictates I've gotta do better
But - Kydex is not in my repertoire, especially for a classic design pistol.

I have a DeSantis open top 3 slot belt holster (I can't recall the model name) for a P99 that fits my Model 639 perfectly. I do have to tighten the tension screw down, but that's easy to do.

I'd be concerned about that *IF* I had ever owned a Glock.
Never have.
Never will.
I just save the occasional holster from being degraded by a Glock and instead liberate it to make an honest living working for a CZ or S&W.

I have a whole box of 1911 holsters including holsters for 3" officer models.
I don't view them as being a good enough fit for a Model 39 either, but I don't have those reservations about a Glock 19 holster.

If you can find an original Roy Baker pancake holder (with thumb break), it works very well with a 39.

Don Hume Leather still sell holsters made for S&W 39 and similar models. They have a dual open top mag carrier with a retention screw. They also have single mag carriers which might have a snug fit. Gould and Goodrich used to sell several holsters for S&W metal frame pistols.

If I had a 39 and no leather, I'd stop at two places; forum member robbt's entry in the classifieds here on our Forum. and if he didn't have what I was looking for, then I'd go to Ebay. It's amazing how many holsters I've been able to find that way, and I've always had excellent luck with them. I'm one of those folks that "needs" at least 2 holsters for every gun, and I hesitate to think how much I would have spent if I were paying retail.
Just a quick search for "vintage holster for S&W 39" might yield some results. worth a try, at least.

I have a Don Hume belt slide (JIT?) that works for my 3914, 915, 39, and 59. Useful piece of leather!

GerSan69 - thanks. And I should have posted an update.
At a SWF member's suggestion I returned to ebay (I'd already looked once and found nothing I liked) and checked a link he gave me.
It's a 'Strong' brand, has the bull logo, is of the 3-loop pancake design and is basketweave. It had a 'make offer' option and my $20 was accepted.
It's new, but the leather has some discoloration near the aft loop, so may have been a blem or second from somewhere.
Believe this will do - the pancake is not my favorite design for routine CC, not after settling on the Avenger scabbard design years ago. The pancake takes up more room on the belt/waistline, and places more leather against the wearer, which I have seen show up with all sorts of sweat stains back when I really worked for a living.
Pic of the Strong leather below.
Seems made pretty well, but have never owned any of their stuff.
Have not tried wearing the Strong just yet, and had mentioned that some Avenger designs I owned made for a M1911 3" fit quite well, so will do a little 'wear and compare' eventually.
And petepeterson - good suggestion on the Don Hume JIT. It's a good design and I use it often for snub revolvers. There's even a place in my state that sells Hume blems and over-runs pretty cheap - that where I started with that design.
Another personal quirk - I won't use the JIT with a pistol or revolver that protrudes out the end of the holster body.
From many years of carrying in either suit or plainclothes at work I found that whatever protrudes out the holster bottom gets hell beat out of it by office chair arms and car/truck seatbelt bases. Hence, my use of the JIT with snubs that do not protrude.

Bianchi's 19L thumb-break for the 39 were still available a couple of years ago.
Wouldn't any holster for a 5906 work?
Edit: Another thought anyone have a Bianchi Pistol Pocket IWB in their "Big Box of Holsters"?????????

Hey Old Corp, that's a steal! I have found the pancake to be the best combination of comfort and concealment. The weight of the gun mostly "disappears."
By the way, I was a Corporal in the years leading up to retirement.
Anyway, enjoy, and if by some outside chance that holster just doesn't work for you, I'll gladly take it off your hands at a 20% premium!
