Found on GB this morning:
Smith & Wesson model 5906 semi-automatic stainless-steel pistol chambered in 9mm, sku 108176U. This model was discontinued in 1999. Due to the popularity of this model with law enforcement agencies, S&W kept these models on hand, in house, for warranty replacements, if needed. They have recently released these guns for sale to the wholesalers but stipulated they must be sold as used. This gun looks brand new, as shown in the photos. It comes in the original factory case with one 10 round magazine, gun lock, and owner’s manual.

They also continued producing various models of 3rd gen pistols through 2014. In increments of 50 guns - minimum order.

The 3914DAO and 5946 for NYPD being two examples that come to mind.

I have a 4566 LE Special order made in 2004. And a 4513TSW made in 2005.

Nice 5906! :) Congrats! Regards 18DAI

That's phenomenal. What is the pricing like on these 5906s?

I wonder if they have any unissued 4506s or 4006s still floating around in their warehouse? I would be all over a sale on Like New 3rd Gens so long as they're priced well.

Very nice! I bough one of the 3953TSW's and a 5946 that showed up few years ago. Both were manufactured in the Houlton, ME plant. Is this one Springfield MA or Houlton ME?

Just FWI, I have a CHP 4006TSW made in 2007.

Bud’s had them about a month ago or so. I snagged one before they were all gone. Mine was brand new. Great shooter. I hadn’t owned a 3rd gen S&W for almost 20 years. I liked my new 5906 so much I have since bought a CHP 4006TSW and a 3913 that’s in great shape. Now I want a 4013.

Nice I have a 569 and a 6906. 569 is a house gun. Heavy chunk of stainless to tote anywhere.

I wonder whether there will be any 2nd Gen guns still waiting to be released. My 639 is a "heavy chunk of stainless" but it sure feels comforting in my hand in a way plastic never could. ;)

I'm sure there are police departments all over the country that still have new ones stored away in their equipment rooms. The question is how many, what models, and will they ever be released for sale.

Many will, as we saw with the dump of NYPD 5946's to Cabela's.
Honolulu melted down hundreds of new 5906's a few years back, which caused a big stink.

Hahaha... no ya don’t! There’s no 569.

There’s a 559 that was all carbon steel. A 659 that’s all stainless steel. Also a 459 that was alloy frame.

469 and 669 are both alloy frame.

That’s all the 2nd Gen 9mm double stacks.

The recent 5906 (108176U) and 5946 (108186U) that I have seen are marked Springfield, Ma

When I bought my 5946 at Cabela's there were two available, one Springfield and one Houlton. I bought the Houlton (it matched my 3953TSW) and I live in ME for a while (born and raised in MA).

Boxes from my pair:

Here’s something interesting about these pistols, and can clearly be seen on the GB post- no roll marks what-so-ever on the slide!
Has anyone seen something like this before? Any explanation? I’m not sure I like the look...

Very interesting - also no Springfield or Houlton location on frame or anywhere that I see. That one with no markings seems to be unique - the ones I have seen have S&W markings on slide and Springfield, Ma on frame above S/N

I got one from Buds as well. Like yours mine was brand new, and shoots great. I have since picked up a 6906, and am now on the lookout for a 4516.

I just looked, nearby (St. Marys, PA) gun store has a 5906 and a 5946 listed as 'new old stock.' Elk County Ammo and Arms, if I'm allowed to post this. Not affiliated in any way.

I recently bought one of the California Highway Patrol 4006TSWs which they're phasing out for the M&P40, but the one I received was in NRA Good Condition. The unissued ones are long gone.
I'm currently planning on buying an Italian Police trade-in Beretta 92S.

I hate it when PDs destroy firearms, it's so pointless when they could sell them on the used market. Folks who live in states where that is common practice really need to start rallying against it on the grounds that it's a blatant waste of taxpayers money to buy firearms only to destroy them somewhere down the line when they could sell them and use the funds to cover some of the PD's expenses.

Whoops 659. And my 3rd gen 6906.
