I am not sure I am in the right place for the qestion; but here goes - I have a S&W Model 645 in 45acp and would like to know where I might find magazines for this old gun? Any suggestions would be appreciated?

The Smith and Wesson 645 shares magazines with the 4506, 4566 and 4586 (4506 being the most common).

Plenty available on Gunbroker.com, some occasionally pop up on eBay, and the cheap aftermarket ProMags are available on Midway.com (ProMag Mag S&W 645 4506 4566 4586 45 ACP 8-Round Steel Blue).

Just do a quick Google Search for "4506 magazines" and you should get plenty of results.

I know very many here HATE ebay, ("flea bay" et all,) but it can be a viable and reasonably priced source for original 645 magazines. If original makes a difference to you.

As was mentioned all the full size S&W .45acp magazines will work. Well not the 945's, (some will,) but that's different. You can rebuild tired ones with available new springs and followers. Color of followers doesn't matter unless you're a "purist".

There's a guy on Gunbroker that lets a few original 645 ones go every so often for great starting prices. He doesn't charge much for shipping. Keep checking.

Jim

Right now there's a few metal bottom ones on Gunbroker and eBay. Over 50bux each but I haven't seen them cheaper. Look under S&W 4506.

For the last couple of months, I've been using half a dozen of the nickel plated ten rounders from ProMag for range work.

Since the 4500 guns are carry weapons for me, I've stocked in a nice cache of spare parts and magazines. However, the OEM magazines are a finite and consumable resource. As such, I want to reserve those for carry in order to stretch them as long as possible. Given the price point, if I get a few months of use and they go south, the ProMags are not an expensive replacement.

I decided to give the ProMags a try, not having great luck with the brand in the past. Much to my surprise, they've ran without issue for the last two months. They aren't a quality product and I'd never recommend them for any serious use, but for the range and as a way to save wear on your factory mags they seem to be filling the need.

I bought my spare 645 mags on eBay. The best are actually 4506 magazines and have a black plastic follower and black plastic base plate/pad. Plan on $50+ each these days, but once in a while you will find a bargain.

Finding deals on Ebay can be an art. OP, do this:

- Open ebay and type your search term in the box.
- When the results come up, sort them by "newly listed" and go through the entire list*.
- Pin that tab (right click on the tab and select 'Pin Tab'
- Now check it at least daily by refreshing the page- make sure the sorting stays on Newly Listed.
- Sometimes the thing for which you're looking will appear, and sometimes it's priced reasonably. The faster you see it, the faster you can "Buy it Now" if the price is right.

*By sorting to newly listed, you only need to look at the entire list once. After that you only have to look at the first few listings. You've already seen the rest of the list, so it's simple and quick to see what's come up since the last time you refreshed the tab.

Doing this will float the newest listings to the top so you can catch any 'good deals' as soon as they appear, before they're gone. I've scored several P239 magazines doing this- often for ~$20 or so. I used to have the search term, "Wesson 10mm" pinned and scored 6 -8 good magazines for $30 or less. When I sold my 1076 I had at least a dozen to go with.
