Just got my mitts on this yesterday:
Through my reading on the forum here, and over on Rimfire Central, I believe I have determined that this is likely a late 1963 M41. If memory serves, the 5.5" HB was available from August of that year.
I am largely a revolver guy, but recently have developed an interest in classic 22 semiautos, buying a couple of first series Colt Woodsman (Target and Sport) earlier this year. But I've been reading about the M41 for quite a while now, and wanted to own an early version of S&W's premier .22 target pistol. I was pleased to find one in our classifieds here. As you can see, it is in beautiful shape for 59 year old gun. The bluing is fantastic.
