Hello everyone. It's been a while since I have posted in the forum. I decided I was going to call S&W to pick their brains on these RJF melonite 4566s and man did I get lucky today so I thought I would share the info I received. We all have the background info on these so this is brand new to me info.
Directly from S&W customer service-
The 4566 Melonite serial number started with RJF3094. There were 120 of these made. The rep went through the database for me and gave me a starting serial number then verified there were 120 made in the 4566 platform . He said the RJF prefix continued in to the 9mm so that production number of the 4566 was accurate. He also informed me that the sku# on these pistols was 148670 but the sku was changed somewhere along the line with the #1 replaced with a #6 for whatever reason. I also learned that my specimen (which we will call #10) was sent out as a T&E pistol and returned to the factory. It was gone through and then sold to a store as a "used" pistol. The rep also asked me if there was a letter "U" stamped on the frame under the grip in which I had not ever noticed anywhere until I hung up and had to investigate. Sure as the sky is blue there is a light "U" stamped just above the mag release button. We have all read different production numbers but I was excited to hear it straight from someone who was willing to spend 5 minutes digging for me. He also brought up the KJF prefix saying there were even less of those made. At that point I knew I was talking to the right guy! Hope this might answer some questions we probably all have.
