Was it advertised as rare, or did you realize what it was when you saw it? Very nice find!
Is the manual for generic autopistol, or model specific?
Todd

Wow! Nice find.
I would love to see a photo of the paperwork and box candy that came with this great pistol.

Hi toddimusnimski:
Yes! It was advertised as a rare pistol!
All the paperwork is generic.

There are some questionable information in the Amoskeag Auction Company Description of this fine 559.
The reasons I doubt their information is because I track 559s... This Dull Blue that you found is in the middle of the three that I have seen.
But all three are also the newest (or highest S/N 559s I have seen) which leads me to believe they are from the small 1985 release.
A792876
A792901 (your find)
A792914
Numbers are not sequential
The Standard Catalog of S&W claims later models of the 559 were released with the (what I call) the Type II Extractor (long & narrow), not the final 200-250. The reason I call this into question is the oldest 559 that I have seen with the T2 Extractor is S/N: A749351 which is from early 1982.
I would like to see this gun lettered so we could get more information.
Congratulations on a fine 559.
Audie

Audie, You can add A792848, although it won't be 'seen' until I post pictures of it...

Hi audiec01:
Thank you for the clarification.
I misread the information in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson.
I now realize that my S&W Model 559 is from the 1985 “dull blue” batch.
Kind regards,
Say When!
