Broken Model 41 slide stop/ejector
Title says it all.Slide stop broke into 2 pieces.
Looking for a replacement. Jack First has them $75.
Anyone have any other suggestions of where to find one?
I'm not sure if S&W will sell me one or if they will want me to return the gun for repair.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Gun is 1960's vintage S/N 700xx

I recently bought one from Numrich, unfinished and rough but not $75.00. Not sure if still in stock.

What are those grind marks on the left piece in the pic?
Appears to have been welded?

The tiny leaf spring in mine broke, no way (at least within my abilities) to replace just the staked - in spring so replaced the entire part. Purchased from Brownells. I had to do a little fitting / filing but no problems after several bricks down range. As I recall the fitting was mostly where it engaged the magazine.

The marks don't appear to be grinder marks, Is a pebbled type surface as if it had been cast. Back side has the same type of finish. No apparent signs of been welded either. Would have been a small piece to weld.
Fmj how long ago did you purchase from Brownells? They show out of stock on their website.
No joy at Numrich either, out of stock.

Called S&W this morning, going back to them for repair. We will see how its handled. Right now shipping back and forth is on them.
I had been having some intermittent ejection problems for awhile. I wonder if this was the cause.

There are two types of these ejector/hold-open parts.
The difference is the location of the notch that "kicks" out the case. Old m41s have the notch towards the rear of the part. Later m41s have the notch forward.
The later part gives you the option to file that notch back to tune the moment the case is ejected.
In any case, the m41 design is largely derived from the Walther (later Hämmerli) Olympia.
One major difference is that the Walther/Hämmerli used a separate ejector and slide stop. Both were beautifully machined out of solid steel bar stock.
The S&W part not only tries to combine both functions in one part (arguably one of the primary reasons for m41 reliability problems), it is, being a sheet metal stamping, a pretty cheesy part.

6string, thanks for the history lesson! Will have to see if I can find a Walther or Hammerli to look at.
Guessing given the age of my pistol I have the earlier version.
Thanks to all for the responses.

Brother broke his. He called S&W and gave them the serial number. Apparently there's at least 2 different versions. They sent him the correct one. Easy to install. S&W told him he's not the first to call for that part. One of the weak points of the 41.

This thread is the first I've heard of 2 versions. All they would tell me is that is a restricted part. It's on its way to them to fix. We'll see what happens.

Looks to me as if it might have been poorly finished and then just worn from use. I don't see it being welded though.

About 40 years ago I was shooting in one of our "Dump Hunts" where you shoot up 100 years of junk in a dairy ranch dump. These dumps are no longer around because every rancher has buried his dump to avoid having to pay $40K to mitigate all of tires, cars and mastitus syringes they left in their pit, just the horrible things he's done to Mother Earth.
My 41 was perfect for a dump hunt. A guy asked to shoot my 41 and when the slide stayed open he slammed it with his palm and bent the slide stop. I wanted to beat the **** out of him but others said no.
I wrote a note to S&W and they sent me a new slide stop. They never charged me for any M41 parts, tiny sight parts etc. The new part worked perfectly but stuck out like a sore thumb which made me want to hunt up the guy and ...I suspect that the supply dwindles once in a while and they have some other company make them because even back then they never matched the original part. My under 5,000 # has an ugly slide stop. This 41 has to be 70 years old and had thousands of shots through it. Maj Hank Bires shot it for 20+ years on the west coast Army pistol team.
