Saw this in the not so local gun store.
Overall really nice condition.
2 questions:
Is it worth the $750 they're asking?
Can anyone tell me the +/- ship date from the serial number? VEC0564
Thank you all in advance

I'd say jump on it at that price. You will surely enjoy it and, one day, recall how lucky you were to pick it up at that price. Can't provide date but appears to be a later production with rounded trigger guard, MIM trigger and hammer. Go pick her up!

Congrats,
-SigBoone

Cannot be sure of ship date however the hang tag claims they have the original case so when you get that, we can get a production date from the end label of that case.

Great looking pistol!

From what I have been reading this is the epitome of the large frame S&W 45 auto. Having the beefier 10mm slide etc. I can pick it up after the 26th of November. Pictures and a range report most def to follow.

I picked up a mint 4506, bag full of mags, pancake holster and some custom wooden grips for $550 2 years ago.
I've seen em on gun broker in the $500 dollar range lately too, so it depends on how bad you want it?

some more pictures 4506-1

Looks like it was shipped September 26, 1995?
Funny thing it is the matching box but it list the model number as 4506 not 4506-1.

That sounds right to me. I suspect the box has the -VERY- fragile clasps. Be careful with the locking clasps on the box. They wear and tear clean off.

If your original box is missing a clasp, you will know why. The boxes from this era are great looking boxes but those clasps were a terrible design.

Any time I buy a gun from Gunbroker, I figure the final price is $100 more than what the auction price was.

*Credit card fee
*Tax
*Shipping
*Transfer

I love Gunbroker. I've bought a bunch of guns that way. You can find everything on Gunbroker; the local gun shop almost never has the used gun I'm looking for.

Prices on nice 4506s probably are going one way: Up. I would pay $750 plus tax for that gun. In a few years, that's going to seem cheap.

Getting to be more than an extra $100 -
More like $125-150 added with:

Credit Card Fee up to 3.5-4% plus tax on fee
Shipping on many at $50 plus tax on shipping
9-10% sales tax on a $500-800 purchase = $40-80 tax
GB hidden 1% tax processing fee
plus receiving FFL fee ($25 for me)

Still good place to find what you are looking for - just figure in the extra cost when you bid.

Prefer to buy person to person on classifieds here or local if you find what you are looking for - though those prices seem to have risen too.

How many mags come with it?

EDIT: Never mind. Re-read the slip. With 2 mags, original box, and looks in decent condition, I'd say the pricing is not unreasonable.

Now that I can see what you got for $750, I'd say that in today's market, you did not get taken. Deal of the century? No, you paid a fair market price. Now if you take it to the range, be sure to post a range report.

Absolutely! I think I am going to be able to pick it up one day next week. I will do the NICS check on Monday and it takes 1-3 days to come back. I plan on shooting it as soon as my work schedule allows. Most likely Thursday or Friday evening. Rounds will be fired, holes will be punched, pictures will be posted!

4506-1 hit the range today

After I figured out the trigger and put a few dozen rounds down range I think I have her dialed in.Fixed sights, 7 yards.
