Frame Mounted Decocker Question - Recall?
OK from another thread a question (at least in my poor recollection) as to the Recall on 3rd Generation pistols with Frame Mounted Decocker.
I know the 1076 pistols were recalled and mine has the punch marking under the lever indicating it was "fixed".
But were the 1026, 4026, 4526, 4536, 4576, 5924, 5926, 6924 (all 5 of them?), and 6926 also subject to the same problem / recall?
Thanks in advance, Ed

Does anyone know exactly what the FTF cause and fix were?

The side to side play in the side plate, which has the decock lever mounted on it, could cause the 'teeth' on the lever to not align with the decock pawl.
The fix was to add a circlip to the side plate pin on the right side to keep it tight to the frame.

I believe the entire sideplate was replaced to one with a black spacer as well as the addition of the circlip.

Yep, but apparently my 4026 was sent in for verification, or maybe the factory decided to give it the 2 dimple treatment anyway before it was shipped out.

Yes. All decocker models were subject to the Recall.

I wonder when the recall was issued. Was the 4026 introduced after the recall so it was already a part of the pistol so not included in the text of the recall.

Recall issued around October 1991.

Several of the Frame Decock seem to be 1 year only 1991 (4526, 4536, 6926), or not beyond 1991 (1026 & 5924 1990-91). Presumably all of these need to be checked.
Others seem to have been produced over multiple years beyond 1991 including the 1076 (1990-93), 4026 (1991-93), 4576 (1991-92), 5926 (1990-93) and 6924 (5 pistols 1992 only).
In several cases, s/n are documented in the year (mostly 1990) prior to their appearance in the SW catalogs.
But if recall issued mid production 1991, did they recheck all of each model, even those produced as late as 1993 or are those identifiable in some way?

S&W says my 4026 was shipped in Nov 1993 so maybe they did stamp the 2 dots before it left. Notice the ones on mine are lightly indented and spaced out a bit; I seem to remember seeing images of others that were not done like that.

I know this is a late reply, but all I need is that updated side plate with the integrated spacer and a circlip to hold it in place?
Do I need a new decocker bar or decocker spring?

The sideplate and circlip were the most visible changes - I don't know for certain if any other parts were replaced. I have read that when the action comes apart, it's very difficult put back together. Let S&W deal with it since they still honor the recall.
