SW1911TA E-SERIES. Any mags besides factory stock?
Hello. Finally got my bucket list 1911. It's the E-Series Tactical. Are there any options to get a 9 or 10 round magazine for this pistol? I figured Wilson Combat would have this covered and for any onlookers they do not have any compatible mags. I tried the "500-45FS10" and "47-45FS10" myself.
If 3rd party mags exist for this pistol, how can you tell they are compatible? Would it be "e-series" compatible?
Would love to get more rounds in the mag. If it's not possible would love just to know to stop looking.
Thanks for reading!
EDIT: The factory mags allowed for the slide to close when they were empty.
The 3rd party mags would not allow for the slide to close when they were empty.
So the Wilson Combat mags did work. I just never loaded them when testing them out at home. If I had tested them with rounds in them, the slide would have closed.
I never realized this was possible, hence my post. Thank all who chimed in!

Welcome to the S&W Forums.
It's a M-1911 Government Model copy and uses M-1911 Government Model magazines. As designed, the M-1911 magazine holds 7 rounds in 45 ACP. With a different follower and spring, they can hold 8 rounds. There are 10 round magazines available, but all of them will have longer bodies as there is simply not enough body length in the standard size M-1911 magazine for more than 8 rounds.

Look at Greg Cote, LLC for as many 1911 magazines as you could want. As above, a 1911 mag. is a 1911 mag, makes no difference who made the pistol!

I appreciate the responses! So I bought this magazine which did not work. And after talking with Wilson combat support, they said this magazine might work. Both of the mags inserted too deep and do not allow my slide to close. Both mags claim to work on full size 1911s. So after a month of paying return shipping I figured I needed to learn something about this particular pistol and it's magazine.
With all due respect, I don't think this S&W 1911 is as universal as you think. I am noticing today before this post that some mags have "Government Model" in their description as stansdds mentioned. Maybe I will try one of those if there's not any particular feedback to this thread.
Thanks for your time!

I have a 1911TA. In fact, it is one of my current favorite .45s. I’ve been shooting 1911s a long time and have a variety of different magazines. What you have been told is correct, in my experience. I use any magazine I happen to have lying around, including Wilsons, and I can’t recall ever having any type of malfunction with this pistol. It’s run like a truck since the day I got it.
I rarely use 10 round magazines but the ones I have are “Shooting Star” by CMC and they work fine. Of the major brand-name 1911 magazines the only one I’ve had an issue with is an Ed Brown mag, and it is too tight in all of my pistols, not just the 1911TA.

A "funny" thing regarding 1911s, is that although the various brands of magazines should work in any and all models or individual pistols within those models, in practice, this is not always the case.
This is why some folks praise certain magazines to Heaven and damn others to Hades based on experience with their own pistols.
My E Series 1911TA runs absolutely flawlessly with Check-Mate and Chip Mccormick Power Mags, and "almost" flawlessly with Wilson Combat.
The Wilson 47Ds did not prove as reliable in my pistol, especially with hollow point duty ammunition such as RA45B or P45HST2.
Regardless of however much others praise them, never buy a bunch of magazines until you've determined that your own 1911 runs well with them.
You might want to try one of these:
1911 Magazines
1911 .45 ACP Magazines - CHECK-MATE MAGAZINES

1911TA love

Hey Monty Pythong, Congrats for joining the 1911TA "bucket list" Club (I also posted here about this being on my Bucket list) !
Out of curiosity, what drove you to a S&W 1911? Did yours come with the tritium sites? Mine did not, I have to send it back for the upgrade...SW claimed they ran out during the pandemic and shipped a bunch out without the tritium...which reminds me I need to send back eventually what a hassle...too much fun though to be without ha ha.
As for Mags, My LGS had a used Sig 1911 for sale. The original owner had 12 mags with it and the LGS decided to sell the used Sig with 2 mags and sell the rest of the mags separately. I bought 2 like brand new at $20.00 each and they fit, shoot and lock back perfectly with my 1911TA. I also have a Wilson Combat that works fine. Here's a pic of my 1911TA with my 4506 Stamped "Sayre PD", Enjoy your heirloom quality 1911TA and thanks in advance to the reply to my above questions !! 3GF

No, any M-1911 clone should accept any M-1911 magazine. If it does not, there can be tolerance issue between the magazine and the particular 1911 and unless it is a really cheaply made 1911 clone, it's most likely a case of the magazine's dimensions being incorrect or the magazine catch slot incorrectly located on the magazine's body. A wide base plate on the magazine can prevent the magazine from fully seating if the base plate extends just a bit up the sides of the magazine body.

Cosmetically I wanted it. But this will be my bedside pistol so I wanted the rail. And mine did come with the tritium sites.
Thank you for sharing!!

I appreciate everyone speaking with me on this. I think I will try two or so other brands from the same distributor incase I need a return I can return all at the same time. And if they also do not work I assume it's time to ask S&W to repair the pistol.
If you would do anything different, do feel free to chime in. Thanks again for your time with your responses.

The factory mags allowed for the slide to close when they were empty.
The 3rd party mags would not allow for the slide to close when they were empty.
So the Wilson Combat mags did work. I just never loaded them when testing them out at home. If I had tested them with rounds in them, the slide would have closed.

No offense, but you do know to close the slide on an empty mag you need to depress the slide release.

I certainly do know that. That works on the factory mags, not on the third party mags.

Likely due to magazine spring pressure. A strong magazine spring can apply a lot of pressure on the follower, making it difficult to thumb down the slide lock lever when the magazine is empty.

I am not clear on what is going on.
What happens when you shoot the gun?
Does the factory magazine feed all rounds to the chamber and lock the slide back when empty? If not, they are defective. Or the gun is.
When you say "third party" do you mean Wilson? Which of their many variants?
What happens when you load the gun with them? Do they feed, fire, function, and stop open when empty?
A good magazine with the spring holding the slide stop up will make it very difficult to close the slide on an empty magazine.

I'm glad that you got everything figured out. We all have gaps in our firearms knowledge. With experience we get fewer and fewer, but they still exist. That's one thing about guns, shooting and reloading that I like. I'll never learn it all and there are plenty of understanding folks on lists, in the gun community, like this, who are willing to help.

I have one of the “E” series in LW Commander pattern.
It works with any and all 1911 magazines I have from various manufacturers.

I like Wilson mags BUT; While my Springfield 9mm 1911 loves the Wilson Flush 920 magazines ( basically the same magazine as the CMC match grade) it does not like the premium Wilson ETM magazines at all.
