I don't usually shop for 1911's anymore. My main focus is typically on S&W revolvers. With 45 ACP being one of my favorite calibers, I have accumulated quite a few 1911's, from various manufactures but I have never had one in 38 super, until today. I stopped by my area Cabela's and found this one. I have read on the forum how desirable these are, so I couldn't resist. Plus, I think it was priced right. $1136.00 OTD with PC aluminum case, two spare recoil springs, one magazine, barrel bushing wrench and documents. Sunday is my range day. It won't come soon enough. Enjoy the photos.

I got one of these not long ago , it's turned in to one of my favourite PC guns . You're going to be surprised by its accuracy . Towards the end of our last range day we were shooting at chicken silhouettes and consistently hitting them at 100 yards . The PC shop hit it out of the park with these . I think accuracy wise it's up there with my 40 and 3566 Limiteds , and that's saying a lot . Almost forgot , take those grips off . I've been told and read that the writing wears off pretty fast .

Thanks for the tip, Marine

Last night I practiced pointing and dry firing a few times. It felt like the flat trigger gave me some better control of the shakes. It's my first gun with a flat trigger. I think I'm going to like it, a lot. Next challenge will be finding plenty of ammo. The big store didn't have any and a few of my LGS only had small quantities.

If you shot one , you'd figure out a way to justify it . I paid a little more than Dino , and mine came with everything also . You might be able to find just the gun , and get a decent price on it . I don't know how many were made , but you don't see them very often .

For Cabela's that IS a ridiculously LOW price! Their GunRoom mngr will no likely be terminated OR after all these years reality has caught up with them.
Hard to believe they didn't know the value of this one!😊

They screw up occasionally. I purchased a used Browning Lightning with a bunch of tubes for $700 last fall. Almost had a heart attack when I saw the price. Has some finish wear but the thing was in darn good condition. A new Lightning is $2400.

They are woefully understaffed at my local Cabela's so maybe the gun room guy was new or something.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I hardly ever go in there but I always check the used guns when I do. One never know, do one.

That's one fantastic pistol amigo.

Super Pistol

Congratulations on the outstanding
Performance Center S&W 1911-2
38 Super!

I’ve always wanted a 38 Super, and
that would be the Pistol I’d want.
Accept no substitutes.

Thanks for sharing and posting pictures.

The Best to you and your Endeavors,
on Range Day.

I visited the range this afternoon. To say I am ecstatic with this 1911 is an understatement. Here are some photos of the targets I shot today. I am also including some others for comparison. DK PC 1911-2 vs Dan Wesson Vigil Commander 45 ACP and a model 4013. All shots were fired standing in a modified weaver, two hand hold. 5 rounds at a time per gun. First round in string with 4013 is double action. I also fired a 66-4, 2 1/2" and a Colt Woodsman Sport, 1st series but did not include those targets due to photo limitations. See notes on targets for distance and ammunition used.

One advantage of these 1911 38 Supers is how easy they are to get a 9mm barrel , fit it to the gun and get some 1911 9mm magazines and have a 2 caliber gun.

I'm glad to see you got it to the range . The more you shoot it , the better you'll get .

Want to share what Sevens , the man when it comes to PC guns , says about these .
"But if you want to find the finest and the rarest , and the hardest to find , it's going to be the Doug Koenig PC 1911-2 in 38Super ."

Those who tell you that you bought that gun cheap are right. I paid $1,800 for this nearly new one with all its goodies eight years ago! But as others have also said, they don't come much better.

There were a few variations of this pistol. Some have S&W rear sights, others have Wilson Combat sights. Some have curved triggers, others have flat ones. And some have black Patridge front sights while others have fiber optic. I've never been able to learn exactly why but some on here have speculated that parts were used randomly.

Regardless, they are great guns.

Ed

I've read that Doug Koenig had a tremendous impact on parts used , a lot coming from EGW . I've seen pictures of both flat and regular triggers and also different sights . I guess they (He) ordered parts and used whatever came in .

Mine has the Patridge front and Wilson rear sights, and the flat trigger. I paid $1500 for it earlier this year (pistol only), my serial is a DKC prefix. It is in very good condition with a slight dulling of the grip panels, but I felt like I paid a reasonable price for what it is. :D

I've owned a number of Supers since the '70s, but never one of the DK examples. They are beauties! The Super is a fine pistol cartridge IMHO; I still load for it. Enjoy those DK guns..

38 super Doug Koenig

That's a major score for a DK usually go for 1800.
I know, I had 2, now one.
Most accurate in my arsenal of 1911 aside from Rock Rivers.
