I Thought I Would pass this on to those of you who would like to have a barrel weight for there 52-1 or 52-2. They only cost $38.00 plus shipping.
They are a one piece design, instead of the 2 piece done by S&W.
They slip right on, and should not mark up the side of the pistol, unlike some of my original weights have done to the pistol they were on.
Check out DJPrecision Inc. I enjoy shooting with the weight on.

There is also a guy on Gun Broker who makes an exact copy of the S&W 52 barrel weight, 2 piece, much nicer looking, it's nearly double in price than the other one, but I'm sure it might fit a bit tighter then this other one.

Here are the photos of the new copy of the S&W barrel weight. Is it worth the extra money?
Absolutely, it's a beautiful piece of work, it's hard to tell the copy from the originals. The copy is in the middle of the group.
His black or blue that he uses matches my 52-2 very well. Some minor stone work to remove the little burrs that are present even on the S&W weights. Once removed it slipped right on, no scraping on the sides of my gun, unlike some of the original weights. Also I did not get all the protective grease off, so the side view looks funny, but the surface finish is very nice.
This as the original is a 2 piece weight.
Judge for your self. Any questions feel free to ask.

The weights for the Model 52 Smith & Wesson are more correctly refered to as Target weights as they do not attach to the barrel. The model 52 weights attach to the frame and are held in place with a snubber screw. Your model 52 handgun must have the detent in the dust cover for the snubber screw and the frame slots to utilize the weight. The weights shown above are indeed listed on gunbroker and are an accurate reproduction. If you enjoy shooting your 52 the weight will only add to your shooting enjoyment. The weights sold by djprecision are a one piece design and are not like the original S&W weights. Original weights sold by S&W years ago for the Model 52 are very hard to come by and command very high prices.

We do have one other source that makes a better quality Reproduction of the S&W Target weight,
someday I'm going to take a photo of my Barrel weights holding down a target. One on each corner.
Keeps them hanging straight I guess.
The originals may command a high price, but I have yet to find anyone really wanting to pay for them. The other reproduction weights are available to the forum members for $75.00, they can be found on Gun Broker.

Check out Gun Broker auction number 93064586
This is the accurate reproduction that I am referring to.

Those are the ones I'm talking about, they are 2 piece and made very well, I have a set, Tim is a very nice guy to deal with as well.

It is refreshing to see a reproduction that is apparently accurate.

I assume the only obvious difference is that the reproduction does not have a S&W logo. Is that correct? Is the logo the only mark on the original? If so, where is it located?

Thanks aeronut04
I purchased several sets and they work just fine on my 52, and 52-1. I would not consider using my NIB sets of weights after using these.

Best Regards

The Smith & Wesson roll mark was on the left hand side of the weights as they are mounted to the pistol. That was the only marking, except I do have 2 that have a set of numbers on the inside, which I have no idea why. I have 2 sets with and 2 sets without any numbers. The numbers were between the screw holes, on the relieved area.
The guy that makes the reproductions is also planing to reproduce the model 41 weights which bare no roll mark at all.
His home brewed bluing is very nice.

Hi,
There are some model 52 target weights on Gunbroker now and he dropped the "Buy it now" price to 75.00 hoping some forum members will benifit from the lowered price. Better buy them while you can as he said they are slow sellers and he will not make any more. When the 27 weights that are in stock presently are gone that will be it.

It is a shame, I guess not that many people shoot the 52s, or they just don't realize what an improvement it makes in keeping the line of sight.
I really enjoy shooting mine with the weight, and will not go back to not using one.

You just motivated me to try the weight I bought with my gun back in '74. What should I use on the set screw to keep it from shooting loose? I would like to be able to remove it in case I ever want to use the original box agaun. Thanks for your post!

I just received my Model 52 weight. If I remember correctly from the Model 52 I sold in the early 80's that had the weight with it. This reproduction actually looks better than the original one I had. Great craftmanship on the reproductions. If you are a shooter you should try a set.
Here's a link to the current set on Gunbroker.
