Convert Sigma 9 to 40

would need a 40sw barrel and slide
the mag well will not accommodate 40sw magazines as the 9mm variants have thinner mags and extra polymer in the magwell.
cheaper to just buy one in 40sw

Most (of not all) caliber conversion kits are for going down to a smaller caliber. In the case of the Sigma you would have to just go buy a SW40VE. And in all fairness, a new Sigma costs about the same as most conversion kits anyway.

I have actually done this a few years ago. I had a sw9p and had purchased a 40v slide and barrel off of ebay.

The slide and barrel fit the 9mm frame perfectly. The problem was that the 40 magazines would not fit in the 9mm frame. The recoil springs are the same for both guns though.

The solution was to "bend" the feed lips of the 9mm mag wide enough so that it would feed the 40 s&w bullets. I did this with a 10 round mag which held 8 of the 40 bullets.

Doing this actually worked, but I can't recommend to anyone else. I don't think I ever shot more than a box of ammo through this configuration before I sold the gun. There were no signs of wear. I still have the slide and barrel mothballed in the holster box in the basement. The above posters are pretty much on the mark about buying a second gun. I eventually replaced that gun with a SW99 (in surprise - 40 s&w) and that gun is fantastic.

Disclaimer. If you attempt the above you do this on at your own risk.

Naw, I'm not going to do anything like that. My Sigma 9 is fine. Just curious about the 40, never shot one.

So could you get a 9mm barrel and slide and put it on the .40, and use the .40 mags for 9mm?

This I would not mind doing, I'd like to have the option?

9c1.

I haven't done it, nor would I. It's just cheaper and safer to just buy another sigma. For the 9mm to work in a .40 mag you would have to close the ears in a little on the mag for the bullet to stay in the mag.

Fellow posted about trying this a couple of years ago and said he had produced a jam-o-matic for 9mm and ruined his 40 mags; didn't recommend it.
