$1,200 for Mdl.10-4 4”??

There is a Mdl 10-4 with heavy 4 inch barrel with just the empty box for $1,200! There is freckling of rust all over pistol. Local gun guy has it for sale as customers bring them in to sell.
What in the heck are people thinking?

Maybe a PPC gun??? That would also explain the much higher price, but still overpriced probably.
 
Well, anyone can have an asking price, but this one seems…optimistic. ;)

And as Jack noted, at that time the odd "dash" numbered model 10s (-1 and 3) had the heavy barrels, and even numbers the tapered. After the -3 the heavy barrel was the -6 and all even numbers to the current -14.
 
People ask all the time, what's my gun worth? The answer has always been simple enough for me-it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it and yes there are lots of people with more cash than sense.

When I display, most people who ask seem appalled at what I value my guns at...They all look for attached price tags, and those looking to flip a gun on the next aisle are disappointed because I value my guns at what they are worth to me...I only display at shows to increase the value of my accumulation, but possibly yours too if we happen to agree on trade values, and you don't mind a little dickering...

Those hoping to gather enough trade profit to finance their next Glock purchase can keep walking...:rolleyes:...Ben
 
This is why you want knowledge of current pricing before you go shopping. Dealers will try to get every dollar out of anything. For that one I would go maybe $400 on a great day for the seller.
 
K, maybe I misread what dash it is. What should it be? It's plain heavy barrel Mdl. 10 with heavy barrel that looks only fired at factory. Empty box and rust freckling , give me a break, $1,200?
 
I have learned not to waste my time on such drivel. Evidently seller don't know anything or it's another charlatan fishing for fools. When I walk the aisles in show if person doesn't have his stuff priced I don't bother to stop and look. Same as people behind tables hollering hey buddy what is that and how much you what for it.
I have send a lot of severely over priced guns the last couple years. For some reason people think any gun is gold these days.

The usual answer from the counter guy. Don't get me wrong, I have no special hate for the gun counter people, most are great (if a little condescending). But they might be fishing for a sucker they can convince it's really old and really valuable.
 
Pistol is at a gunsmith's shop where " people that he knows" can put guns out for sale. Guess I was so shocked I got the dash# wrong. I commented on the price and he said one can put whatever price they want to on them. Have to go back by there this week, may offer $500….

It's not just these days. When the old "Trading Post" paper around here used to let people sell guns, I remember listings that literally said "Old gun $1,000" (just to pull a number out of the air). No make, model, not even so much as shotgun, rifle, or hadgun. It might have been a pristine Patterson Colt. It might have been a RG 22. Who knew? To be fair, the seller probably didn't know either.

Gunsmith said the " seller" is " different", go figure. Will see in a day or 2 if the price has been lowered and make an offer.

Those revolvers originated from a special order by the NY State Police. Approximately 1,200 of them were produced. Most, but not all, of them went to the NYSP. Due to demand, this led to the introduction of the Model 13-1.

I personally own two of the NYSP revolvers. It is a fun variant of the Model 10-6.

The particular Model 10 that I had mentioned being for sale in the sporting goods store was lettered, it was shipped to a gun dealer. It was in a box, but the end label looked too light and pristine to be the original.
I took pictures of the gun and the letter but now can't find them. I will get more pics soon if it's still available.
 
I saw a very nice all correct 10-0 with no box or docs at a show yesterday. An older guy, like me, was walking around with it trying to figure out what it was worth. After talking with several people he decided he wanted $500 for it. I offered $400, which he declined. I would have given $500 but I already have one just like it, a nice dash 6 and a few similar in stainless. I saw him leaving the show later without it.
 
If the M10-4 is Brand New (unfired except for Factory testing) has all the tools, paper work and original wrapping (VCI Paper) and the box is pristine, then he could easily get his asking price of $1,200. Basically he wold be selling a new gun as it left the Factory back then and I doubt there are too many left in that condition. Anything less than that, yea the price is too high.

back about 10 years ago I had been looking for a pristine Sportsman/Field barrel for my M41. I wanted one that was either NIB or ANIB. Well one day I got a call from the LGS and he said he just got in 3 that were still in the Factory packaging and I could have my choice. I ran down and bought one. What I paid for the barrel was $60 bucks more than I paid for the brand new M41 back in 1979! $500 for a barrel!! :eek:

That said, I got exactly what I wanted in the exact condition I wanted. I have been shooting it since I bought it and the original Bull barrel has never been back on the gun. I have long forgotten the $500 I paid but I remember how much I love the gun every week!! Yes, I admit I over paid, but to me it was worth the money.

Right. If you get what you need and you can afford the price, it is always "worth it."

When, after many years working at it, I finally acquired the very last link in my complete high end K-38 collection, I bought an ANIB Model 14 (no dash number) in 2020, I paid $1500 for it. Definitely on the high end of prices at the time, but it was what I needed and I had just sold a house (not the one I lived in), so I had a bit of extra money. I am not at all sorry.

Those are some words of wisdom right there.

I can think of several purchases made because the gun was "a bargain" that I later regretted. Nevertheless, each time I bit the bullet and ponied up the cash to buy a gun I *really* wanted it was the correct decision.

It's only money.
 
Went back by today as I had a hour to kill before getting shot in spine. It's a 10-6, empty original box And has freckling of rust all over pistol. Looks to have Only been fired at factory. Smith said he has not seen the guy since he dropped it there. Noticed there were several other pistols with high prices. Our show is in a few weeks so will see what the prices are there.

No smart business should let some fool make his shop look like they are price gouging imbeciles.

FWIW there are nice LNIB older model 10's on gunbroker selling in the $600 to $800 range.
