"Freeze, Mister". My favorite line from the show.

After being on the job for 23 years I can say that Adam-12 is the closest thing to real patrolling than anything else on TV, current reality TV shows like "Cops" included.

If you watch Adam-12 you will see many times most of the show is about calls/interactions with the public of the type that happen everyday in America. A kid with his head stuck in a fence, a lady causing a traffic accident because her kid's pet lizard she was transporting in her car is loose. Meeting with merchants who are holding a juvenile for stealing candy. Responding to an accident and having to separate two angry parties who believe "it's not my fault. Pet and Jim sharing a meal, some coffee and talking about things that everyday humans think about - family, finances, boats, motorcycles, the boss.

Although Adam-12 does have more gun action in an episode than is realistic, it still pales in comparison to a "Cops" episode filmed over a three or four month period and condensed down into 30 minutes of constant fights, car chases, shootings, prostitutes, drugs, drunks and on and on.

Many of the younger generation coming into the profession today are shocked at the hours/days of mundane tasks and boredom, punctuated only occasionally by brief seconds of sheer terror now and then. They expect the job to look like "Cops" or "CSI" or "Criminal Minds", and............It's really "Adam-12". As always, YMMV

And this is pretty much exactly what the first day of policing was like for me 23 years ago. About the only thing that could be added would be one final sentence. "One more thing Rookie. The little radio, the one that plays music, it's mine. Don't touch it......ever. The same goes for the air conditioner and heater."

Loved watching Adam-12 as a kid. K-38's, clamshells, Ithaca 37's, Plymouth Fury! Great cop show!

I'm getting it off Netflix. I tried to get dragnet too. I like Adam 12. I would love to get my hands on all those old cars! There was a bland looking early 60s Ford 4 door in that back ground. I took a good look at it and I saw a 427 Badge on the fender. LOL. Its hard to believe some one ordered that 4 door sedan with an legendary power house like an 427 FE.

Oh man! you just let me down - you mean CHiPs wasn't like the real thing?!?!?!?

Ive not seen this great show since I was knee-high to a grasshopper.

I remember the episode when it was Christmas time, a kid wanted a yellow dump truck from the donation box. Reed saw that there wasn't one, so they stopped the car and he went and bought one specifically so that child would get one. A guy stole the truck with all the donations, and when caught, and told the truck would be taken in for evidence, he convinced the officers that he only wanted the truck, not the toys..so the toys weren't taken into evidence and the children got their donated toys. A nice feel good ending.

I only feel that it did not truly represent the people and their behavior that cops actually come in contact with.
