Hey look another one!!! Just picked this up at a lgs. Been wanting a revolver for a while but prices have been rediculous on anything other than Taurus and rossi's and I just wasn't feeling them. Paid $299 plus tax ($319) which is the cheapest I've seen a smith in a long time.

Anyway, I'm of course wanting to know the date. Serial # is D8677XX. from what I've found so far I'm thinking 1976-77 but just want to confirm.

2" barrel
Factory nickel ("N" stamp on cylinder, haven't gotten grips off to confirm frame, but everything looks right)

Definitely not a safe queen but the nickel looks absolutely brilliant. Grips are pretty worn too but I wanted a gun to shoot. I'll get some pictures up shortly

Love to see pic's, my edition of the Standard Catalog shows that serial# falling in the 75-76 era.

You stole that gun at three hunnert bucks- you should be ashamed! Just kidding-- good on you, it looks great. I'm a Chief Special fan but I have a soft spot in my heart for k-frame snubbies also. I'm not a big nickel fan but must admit that I have one too.

Seriously though, what's normal price right now that everyone's seeing?

What's the difference between a 20-5 and a 10-6?
Is it just tapered barrel vs heavy barrel?
Round butt vs square butt?

Oops, that should be, what's the difference between a 10-5 and a 10-6?

I'm not seeing any decent S&W's for 300. When a LGS has one at all, they're anywhere from 400 on up unless the finish is damaged or it's otherwise defective. I bought a model 60 for $425 from one LGS last year, and a 2" blued 12-2 from another for $350. I saw a nickeled model 10 snub at another place for five something, which is more like the usual LGS pricing. I buy most of my guns private party off the local armslist seattleguns or northwestfirearms websites.
