Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, and I have searched around a bit without finding a definitive answer. Hopefully this has not been covered too much already.

I have a Model 10-5 2" .38 that I inherited recently. The cylinder is binding on the forcing cone slightly, enough to ruin the double action pull after the gun heats up. After doing some research, I have decided to install endshake bearings in the gun to slightly increase the cylinder gap.
I was going to order the bearings and a cutter to "true" the yoke and make it square. Is there anything else I need to order or think about? The extractor rod doesn't seem to be bent.

Is the cutter necessary? Seems like $70 or $80 bucks for a one time use.

Let me know if you guys have any advice. Thanks!

Unless you have a reason to think there is a problem with your yoke, I would hold off on the cutter for now.

Install one or two shimms and see how the gun works. I'm guessing it will be fine.

If you were streaching the yoke rather than installing a shim, then you would need the cutter to true things up again.

Good Luck...

Joe

Welcome,

Joe is spot on with his advice to try just the bearings first, if you find afterwards the yoke needs to be trued up most gunsmiths should do it for a reasonable price.

Thanks, guys.

I will try just the shims (Power Custom from Brownells?) and see what happens.

Does the gun actually have end-shake? If not I would think that the cylinder would bind even worse, with the end-shake bearing acting like a wedge between the cylinder and the end of the yoke barrel.
If you still want to try the bearings and haven't ordered any, drop me a PM with your address and I'll send you a couple in the mail.
