I have an opportunity to pickup this model 10-5, 3 screw Nickel 38sp pistol. Grips match serial. Crane # matches frame. Nickel is 90%+. Hoping to get a feel for a fair price to offer. Serial C679*** guessing from 1964. It has diamond grips. Would these be called Service or Magna? Thanks in advance.

offrdmania, private collector. They are asking me to give a fair offer. When I look at the finish it is very deep and clear. no signs that you would typically see on re-blued guns.

Nice nickel Model 10. Factory Nickel worth a premium over blued per SCSW 4th Edition -page 204. matching stocks adds value. If you could get it for $400 in my opinion that would be a fair deal. Like the standard (tapered) barrel. My nickel Model 10 from 1979.

22hipower thanks for your info. The chrome is really perfect. I'm not a pro so I didn't want to assume higher. I'm not worried about paying a fair amount. I want to be fair to both parties. It is a really beautiful gun. The nickel is like a mirror, matching stocks etc. I'm hooked.

Let us know how it turns out. I am partial to the nickel Model 10 4" standard barrel as I carried one as a law enforcement officer. Get it if you can. I searched for several years before I found a nice nickel Model 10 4".

With the one pic to go by the gun has an odd look to it. The hammer and trigger look very dark like a re-blue rather than the usual case finish. There is a line on the frame above the grip and the grip looks to have been sanded down and given an oil finish. Hard to say from the one pic but the Nickel might not be original. In any case it's not a high dollar gun.

That gun in the condition it appears to be in, with original walnut checkered PC magnas with diamonds, is a $600 gun all day long in my circle.

Service or magna is correct. Diamond magnas are a plus.

Hi all, Hammer and trigger are dark/case hardend? as seen in pic. I own an old Colt snub nose from my dad that was chromed. This is not that. The detail in the logo and barrel are very crisp. I was wondering the same thing. When I pick it up I can post more. Thanks everyone I'll post when I pic

Based on the one picture, I'd wager that it is factory nickel plating, which does add value to this revolver. It's probably something that would sell for around $600 these days.

The grips have obviously been sanded down and refinished as shown by the line on the Nickel above the grip where the edge of the grip used to be. So Nickel might be original. But the very dark hammer and trigger? It's a model 10. $600 dollar gun? No. $450 would seem to be fair to both parties.

All - I purchased it I offered $475 and they accepted. See attached pics I added to the 1st post. Hammer and trigger appear to be original not blued. Grips don't look refinished but I am not an expert. I feel the frame pic shows its not a re-chrome. Thanks again this is a great site.

You did fine. I was going to say go as high as $500. A face-to-face private party deal should always be $50 - $100 less than full retail as no gun shop overhead, FFL, etc.

I think you did good!
