I went into town today and did what I call the "gun loop". I start at one end of the city and finish on the other end before coming home. I hit various Pawn and Gun shops to see what's out there. I've been into S&W revolvers & 1911's lately, so those were on my radar. Some guns I saw that interest me today where two 4" model 25-5's (one had the box), 5" Heavy Duty (action issues), Colt Gold Cups, 4" 629-5 for $999 (pre-lock), older Colt Cobra, Nickel Colt Detective, early 642 w/Uncle Mikes boot grips for $349 (couldn't tell if the frame was cracked?), 4" Model 15's including a pre-model gun, early model 37 w/box, 625 JM, & a 4" model 19-3 for $700 (some finish issues, but original grips). No shortage of decent guns with good prices, but nothing I haven't owned in the past or that really spoke to me.

The last shop I went to is known for more modern guns & high end 1911's. But they do sell used and consignments. In with the other revolvers was this excellent+ consignment 3" 65-5 for $700 (I offered $650, but they couldn't get a hold of the owner). But at $700, it was still a no brainer, and it promptly came home with me. It dates to 1993. The early 90's guns are probably my favorite based on the quality of the ones I've owned in the past. I added the grip adaptor. It came in a soft case w/original paperwork. Ironically, the last 3" 65 I owned came out of that same shop 4-5 years ago for $750. But I foolishly let it go. Hopefully I'll keep this one, as these are getting harder to find.

Good guns and deals are still out there.

I would have been just as happy with a 3" 64. I don't think I'll ever shoot .357 out of this 65. Hot .38 Spl. should get the job done. And this one probably has never seen a .357 round from the prior owner.

I had a 13 about 20 years ago. Spoke to Roy to see if it was an FBI gun. It wasn't. Don't think I've seen one out in the wild ever (except the one I had)?

I also round butted one of the Aussie 3" model 10's that Buds got in years ago. But that gun is also long gone.

I'm not very good at keeping these things.

Although I have two 4" 25-5s, if sanely priced one or both of those 4" 25-5s would came home with me. 😍

I think the non-boxed was $1299 and the boxed was $1499. Those prices don't really scare me away, but I think if I'm going to spend that kind of money, I'd probably want a 4" 29 (which I rarely see) or another 1911. The 625 JM & Colt Gold Cups were around a grand. They also had a hand engraved Colt 1911 for $1700 which I may go back and look at on Tuesday. Anything I buy these days I'll want to shoot and carry.

I won't mind buying a nice Semi-custom 1911. But what used to be priced under $3K new 5 years ago are around $4K+ these days. Sometimes I see a nice used one in the $2k-$3K range. That's more of my price range.

Those are fair prices for a 4" 25-5. I would have offered $1300 for the boxed one and $2500 for both. Thanks for sharing 🍻🇺🇸

My 65-5 is a shooter; a former Department of Corrections weapon from Tennessee. It has been bead-blast refinished and I have put literally thousands of .38 Special through it. Rarely, I shoot a few magnums through it, but not often. I keep it loaded with some Federal .38 Spl +P.

Hi Pizza Bob, I'm not sure if you are familiar with him, but Greg Derr of Derr Precision bought all of Mike Larocca's blueprints and prototypes from his Pachmayr days shortly before Mike retired.

If you or anyone in the forum is interested in having Derr Precision recreate Mike's Pachmayr package on a model 65, he is more than capable of doing it. After all, he now has the blueprints for these.

Cheers,
