Hi All!

First Post and 1st time owner of an AR-15.

I just bought the M&P 15 Sport yesterday and took it to the range for the first time today. I am absolutely 100% Pleased with my decision to buy the sport. I have never owned an AR15 but have fired a friends Rock River. I bought the sport home yesterday and immediately stripped it down and cleaned and inspected it. This morning I took it to the range, fired 10 rounds then field stripped it and cleaned/oiled and inspected. reassembled it and went back out to the range planning to dial in the sights with 5 round increments. two clicks left from factory setting after the initial 5 rounds and I was placing 3 out of 5 in the center with the other 2 still within the black at 20yds. My eye sight sucks so I was grinning from ear to ear!

My questions are about the changes pictured. I REALLY like what you have done with your sport! could you, or someone who reads this, please advise what brands/model numbers are for the butt stock and hand guard? I know the rear sight is Magpul MBUS FDE, and the stock is Magpul but I don't know which model it is that fits the sport. And I am lost on the hand guard. seems like it would be Magpul but cant seem to find anything like it on their site. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My sport is the non restricted version that comes with a 30rd clip and collapsible stock.

It's magpul gear. The 15-Sport takes mil-spec accessories: that looks like a Magpul CTR. The handguard is some type of drop-in, carbine length, quad rail.

Take a look through the picture thread sticky. You'll get lots of inspiration and parts lists there.

Heck, I like my Sport so much... I didn't even hesitate buying my wife one, for her birthday/anniversary. Just waiting the stupid Kalibfornia cooling off period... but it actually falls on the day before her bday... so the timing works out well.

As noted, the Sport is MILSPEC, so your choices are endless. Both the OP and I, have the Magpul CTR buttstocks. It's worth paying a little extra, for the friction lock, alone... imo.

Heck, I'm starting to rip stuff off my gun. I like K.I.S.S.. The original concept was for a backup HD gun, the longer I own, the more desire goes back, to having that light little carbine. The Magpul stuff... I really don't see needing more (for me). My optic is QD, so stripped down to irons and a loaded mag (I'm not saying how many, but it ain't 10) and she STILL weighs in under 8 pnds (7.8 pnds). That's exactly what I wanted when I bought her, something small, fast, reliable, simple. About the only mod I personally would like to do, is replace the handguard for a free float, but I'm in no rush, in that one.

Just bought the Primary Arms Red-Dot Reflex. Brand new optic, they're offering... can't wait to get it. Hopefully Monday, so I can take it to the range.

Basically, its a Burris at a 1/3 the price. It has a cool photocell brightness feature.

I spent less for my sport and I got pretty much the same setup with Nikon scope which is better than this Bushnell red dot. Your setup is not cheap ...

Rule #1 everyone must know about black rifle disease. Never ever ever ever ever for any circumstance input all your accessory receipts into an Excel spreadsheet and total it. It will only make you sad.

Be careful where you say that at... None of the M&P 15 line is "MILSPEC". They are built to MILSPEC dimensions, meaning aftermarket parts and accessories will fit. However, the rifle components are built from different materials and do not have the same QC process. You will get trashed on some forums for making a statement like that.

For example, the bolt carrier in the M&P line is a semi auto style, where MILSPEC is full auto. Another example is many barrels in the M&P line are 4140 steel vs. 4150 per spec. These differences probably don't mean anything to the typical AR-15 owner since these specs are more pertinent to a full auto firearm, but they are differences.

Cool, just hate to see folks get the treatment that many of us have received on other forums... sometimes they get downright nasty!

But the important thing for you to know is that "MILSPEC" accessories will work with your rifle, no issue.

I guess my Sport is now a $1000 rifle. I added a Aimpoint Pro with a 3x flip magnifier. With all of the Magpul furniture that puts this rifle over the G mark.

Well I'm sold on the Bushnell red dot. I was about to buy the aimpoint micro but for $80 I'll give the Bushnell a chance! Glad I stumbled across this post. How do you like that riser? Have you shot with it yet?

You have the scratch to buy an Aimpoint Micro and were going to buy an Amipoint micro, but now you're going to go for a Bushnell? Has the world gone upside down or something? You'll buy that Bushnell for $80. You'll find out that you should have put that $80 toward the Aimpoint Micro you'll still end up buying.

I'm not saying that the Bushnell isn't a decent budget dot, but it is what it is.

For $80 get a TruGlo red dot. I have a dual color in 5 intensities for $70 and you can find 'em cheaper. Had it on my HiPoint 40sw carbine and it held. I had two lasers on it and they didn't make it.

my thought process was.. spend $600 and get the Bushnell, flash suppressor, quality tac light, and more ammo.

I've never owned the aimpoint but I've shot usin one before and of this Bushnell offers the same accuracy.. why not try it out. and if I don't like it, I burned$80... I think we've all blown that on a drunken night out. maybe I just don't get how truly BA the aimpoint is.
