So is the final death knell of the golden age of vintage S&W collecting. By that I mean that vintage S&W autos were plentiful and affordable and in great condition. When a S&W 10-series goes for more than most all matching WW1 era German artillery lugers, something just went seriously askew in the collecting world.

If you look at the bidding, there were 5 bidders up to $5000 but only 3 bidders over $5000 and all 3 went to 7000+ before dropping out. Two of the bidders had less than 10 feedback and mostly several years back. Guess a 1046 drew them out of the shadows. Still hard to imagine $7710 plus tax easily over $8000 without even the factory box.

10 years ago I could buy 4506's for in the area of 600 bucks..I have several... can't buy for that price now in most areas of the US.

I’ve got two 4506-1’s, paid $600 for one and 650 for another from a member off here. I only gave $1000 for my 1066 and considered that outrageous, but I REALLY wanted a 10mm third Gen.
But people do pay some ridiculous prices for stuff. That’s for sure
