1076 decocker question

This may have already been asked but... Why did the FBI adopt the Sig style decocker over the already standard Smith slide mounted decocker/safety? Just been wondering why..

The FBI had been issuing 226s to Agents assigned to SWAT. The feedback was so positive the Firearms Training Unit decided to include a frame mounted decocker requirement in its Request for Proposal for a 10mm pistol. The RFP resulted in the selection of the S&W Model 1076 NMS.
