What is the current value of an S&W 1076 in excellent condition with two magazines and an S&W box numbered to the gun and labeled "FBI Academy" in good condition? THB91xx serial number.

I've seen true FBI 1076's go for 2000 - 2500 on gunbroker.

GB lists no recent closed auctions for an item of this description. That said, $2500-3000 sounds to be in the expected range to me, absent a major bidding war.

If you can prove Agent Mulder touched it before screaming like a beeatch, add a definite $1K to that.

If it was Ass't Director Skinner's issued 1076 (one was seen on his desk in an early episode), make that an easy $2K more.

I suppose it would also be worth more if it could be proven to have belonged to Adolph Hitler but I only have the FBI labeled box and knowledge of how it came to me.

I saw a non-FBI 1076 at a show this weekend with an $1800 price tag on it. No idea if it sold at or near that price.

Sorry to be so slow getting these pictures up. Note the "F.B.I. Academy" faintly in the upper corner of the box end. This came directly to the family from S&W and has been in their possession ever since. I believe it hasn't been fired since the family got it.

There is no doubt about this being an FBI gun. It was purchased by a close family member who was an FBI Special Agent. He also was an an FFL holder. He purchased it directly from S&W along with five other like pistols. I wish he had bought 24! The serial number range plus the box marking "FBI Academy" plus it's purchase history prove it is an FBI gun. It has never been out of a family safe and was authenticated by our knowledgeable forum member. I do agree that a collector may want to get a letter from S&W but anyone who knows anything about this group of guns has enough evidence to prove it's authenticity.

Just for comparison, does anyone know what a plain old run of the mill 1076 is valued at? Either an ANIB or a shooter grade no box?

That's an easy one, a search of the last 30 days' sales on a large auction site for this model showed sales prices of $1234, 1255 and 1275. The first had the box but aftermarket grips, the second no box, different grips and four mags, and the last was the nicest and original with two mags.

Thank you Sir!
