1076 ignition problems

I just purchased a 1076 from a friend. I noticed immediately that when dry-firing double action, about 1/3 of the time the hammer "short strokes" and does not fall all the way to the firing pin. It usually does not do this when dry fired in single action.

I have NOT fired the gun yet; I've only owned it for a couple weeks and just replaced the recoil spring, hammer spring, and firing pin spring. If anything, this made the problem worse and it happens more often. Any suggestions?

This may be nothing more than a lubrication problem.

I'll post some previous thread links with similar models.

You may need to remove the hammer and check for wear on the sides.

Try to lubricate the hammer, pin and the related parts and see if that cures your problem.

I suspect it's the same thing I've noticed on a couple of my guns, 1076 included, & it's not likely a problem, but take a look at this thread where this was brought up part way thru it & see if it helps. Let us know if not.

What is usually going on is the hammer is falling and simply "bounces back" to half-cock. One way to check is to take a pencil and place it in the barrel then dry fire. There should be enough energy in the firing pin to push the pencil out.

Tried the pencil test; the hammer is not bouncing back. The hammer is not striking the firing pin.
