Looking at a 1086 for sale locally. Original grips, one mag on good condition.
Are these guns rare?
Is $650 a fair price?

Third generation Smith 10mm values seem to be creeping up. I paid $825 for a very nice 1006 with box and two mags two years ago. I would say $650 is a pretty good deal in today's market,

I've been looking for a 1006, but thought I might pick this one up till I can find what I want.

Picked it up tonight. Had to drive over an hour one way.
Gun has a small amount of wear, grips are worn bad on right side. Probably was a duty gun. Planned to put curved factory grips on anyway, to match my 4506.
Got it for $625.

Way to go!

The 100x series pistols from S&W were my favorite of the 3rd gen. The 10mm is addictive as well.

Be sure to post some pics and a range report :)

Brownell's has the straights in stock - and it appears they've JUMPED A BIT in price! - but no curved.
Might not be a bad idea just to get a straight set in case you can't find a curved.

Congratulations on your purchase - I'd like to find a decent 1086 some day.

Good find congratulations. There were only around 1600 made so you did good. I lucked up at a local pawn shop a few years ago and snagged one. I love it. I did put the Wolff reduced power hammer and trigger springs on it to lighten the trigger pull and installed a 22 lb recoil spring and it is one of my favorite 3rd gens. I have a 1006 as well but I like the 1086 almost as much as the 1006. Love the 3rd gen 10mm's. Too bad more weren't made.
