i originally planned to do a 1000 round test on saturday, i still will be going to the gun club to do so on their outdoor range. last night one of my friends who reloads needed some cash fast so i got a insane deal on 250 rounds of .40 ammo. we went to a LGS that has a range and i put 250 through my SD40VE we are both members and we get to shoot for free on thursdays :)

notables for this test
A. #54 had a FTF. this was due to the round not the gun
B. #190 had a loading issue. it was half chambered. again this was due to the ammo not the gun

this weekend i have a mix of ammo to use. all factory made not reloads

200 rounds of ultramax 180 gr. FMJ (bulk pack from dicks sporting goods $65)

200 rounds of Remmington UMC green box 180 gr. FMJ (2x 100 round bulk packs)

200 rounds of winchester white box 165 gr. FMJ(2x 100 round bulk packs)

200 rounds of american bullet 180 gr. TMJ (4x 50 round packs)

50 rounds of federal hydrashok 165 gr.

50 rounds of hornaday critical defense 165 gr.

50 rounds of hornaday critical duty 175 gr.

50 rounds of remmington golden saber 180 gr.

i will update this thread with the results. i dont expect any issues but if any do arise i will make sure to relay to you guys/gals

Sounds great I cant wait to hear the results.

What were the 2 FTF's? FTF= Failure to ?? feed??? fire??? function??? You said it was the ammo so I'm thinking fire?

Im guessingone failure to fire and one failure to feed since one time it wasnt fully cocked :)

Talking to you from his Samsung Galaxy S4

one was a failure to feed. that particular round had a bump on it. im guessing it hit the feed ramp and misfed so it didnt load it all the way. the second one i assume had a bad primer. it failed to go bang when i pulled the trigger

now for the good part.

we went out around 1pm Saturday. shot til roughly 5:30pm

keep in mind i have not polished the feed ramp yet. this is a stock SD40VE.

i shot the defensive rounds first:
the defensive rounds went through fairly well. two of the golden sabers did not feed all they way. it appeared it had and the breach was closed. however the slide was not all the way forward. this also happened with one of the hydrashok rounds. both horanaday round types shot very well. no issues with them

3/200 isnt bad. they both happened towards the end as i would load 2 mags up with 12/13 rounds then try another brand, and did 2 cycles of that.

after that 200 i ran through all 200 ultramax rounds. i was a little apprehensive due to the price of them, i thought i might be cheap ammo that was poorly made. i was wrong. all 200 went through flawlessly.

next was the UMC. here i had a few problems. i shot again using 12/13 for even 25 rounds spread out over 2 mags. this gives 8 cycles per 200 rounds. about halfway through the firing of this round i started having feeding issues. half chambered rounds was the most common culprit. that happened 4 times out of the 200 rounds. also by this time the carbon buildup was getting very noticable on the stainless. i wasnt going to clean my gun during this test. but i broke down and did. i made it to 850 rounds between cleanings since i hadnt cleaned after the 250 on friday.

once it was clean again the last 400 rounds went through it no problem. every pull of trigger got a bang and a flawless feed of the next round

i will be polishing the feedramp once my new dremel comes in

there are a few other mods i want to do, but figured it was best to do this on a stock platform. ill be happy to answer any questions you may have for me

Well at least Im not the only one having feed problems with umc. My first round of every mag tends to jam. Never had a problem with wwb or federal

yeah it may just be that brand of ammo and the SD dont like each other.
